Can ativan turn bad on you

I have been on ativan since aug 08.1 mg 3 times a day somewhere along the line i started breaking it in half and taing 1/2 mg. every 3 hours but no more than the 3 pills a day..would this cause them to not work as  well for me or why wont they last 8 hours like at first even when i take a whole one it lasts like 4 hours and im having such dizziness thinking ativan and me dont go togethet anymore has this happened to others

i have took ativan since i was 23 am 49 and it works for me BUT i only take once or twice a year for anxiety, yes ativan will stop working its not a long term med and it will not last 8 hours and yes your taking a lot a day you need to wing off of it with a dr help and get on a long term med like klonopin, its a great long term med and your body will not want more like with the ativan. talk to your dr because soon the ativan wont work at all for you . good luck
