Can it get better

by JeepJessy79, Apr 26, 2007 12:00AM
I'm so happy I found this site.  I live in a small town and I don't know anyone who has anxiety like me.  My husband trys to understand but if you have never felt this way, there is no way you can undertand how I feel.  I feel so alone, every waking moment I spend wondering when I will panic again.  It's so dumb, I can't stop it.  I thought I was doing pretty well then out of nowhere I will feel it coming on.  My doctor wants me to start taking Paxil but I'm thinking I don't want that.  I looked it up online and there's more cons then pros.  I'm not depressed, I have anxiety.
Is there a med just for anxiety.  I don't need anything real strong just a little to make that antsy feeling go away.  Thanks for reading this, I somewhat feel alittle better now that I've talked about it.

Klonopin would really be the way to go.....totally calming effect with no side effects.  Ask the doc for that instead of paxil.  I agree with you; I've been on zoloft for about 9 years and am tire of it; all the side effectsand the sexual one is the worst!  I'm thinkig of just going back on the klonopin and be myself again!  Best to you......

Hi Jessy! It is normal for your doctor to prescribe you something like Paxil. A lot of anti-depressants are taken to alleviate long-term anxiety, whereas medications like Ativan (lorazepam), Kolonopin (clonazepam) and Xanax are treat actual anxiety attacks. In my opinion, .5MG Ativan works best. It begins working within 5-15 minutes of taking it, and the halflife is only about 30 minutes total. It also won't make you feel groggy afterward.

Here are a few tips: Keep in mind that thinking that no one understands your symptoms or if you feel like you're "going crazy!" are all part of the anxiety attack itself. When you feel this way, it's a tell-tale sign that an attack is begining. I personally think that well-butrin (buproprion) is the best anti-depressant/anti-anxiety medication used to treat long-term anxiety disorders. Well-Butrin in shouldn't make you feel anxious (like most anti-depressants do...I know its stupid how an anti-depressant, or anti-anxiety medication can actually CAUSE anxiety), but in combination with Ativan, you should be just fine until you can find your own ways to alleviate your anxiety. For instance, whenever I feel anxious, I always take a deep breath and hold it for 20 seconds, then slowly exhale. For some reason, I always feel more relaxed and like I am back "in control"

Hope this helps!

Klonopin, Klonopin, Klonopin!!!!  Nice calming effects...It takes a while for it to work, but it lasts a long time...if it is taken everyday, it stays in your system and helps to keep you even.

I take it only when having a bad anxiety episode...but doctors prescribe it differently to different patients..I also am on Paxil with it.  I, however, am diagnosed with Depression and Anxiety...although I wonder if it is just anxiety and that is what caused my depression.  However, it does work for me, but there are side effects and you have to weigh it out and see what works best for you.

I've noticed that with klonopin lately; it takes almost an hour b/f it kicks in, but it is great stuff!
