Can lexapro stop working

I have been on lexapro for almost 3 years with good results.  Over the last 2 months, I have been experiencing increased anxiety with panic attacks again.  I was trying to wean off slowly but started to take 10 mg daily again for the past 2 weeks.  I have been having feelings of going to pass out, sweating, headaches that I wake up with and nervousness.  I am afraid to go out to stores again for fear that I will pass out, especially if it is very hot.  It does not get any better when I am home because I fear I will pass out watching my kids.  I want to enjoy them and all I keep doing is worrying.  My doctor tells me it's because of the holidays but I want to know why lexapro is not helping.  Does anyone have any suggestions or comments?  My husband thinks it's all in my head but I am beginning to think that it could be something more.  Please help!

I have not been off lexapro at all.  I was taking 5 mg every other day then started taking 5 mg everyday until a couple of weeks ago when I started taking 10 mg everyday.  I have not actually passed out.  I have just been having the feeling like I am going too.  I am also very hot with sweating again.  I feel the way I felt  before starting lexapro before I was diagnosed with anxiety.

Yes, SSRI's like Lexapro can lose their effectiveness over time. Whether that is what happened with you is unclear because you don't say how much you were taking or how long you were off it.
Let's assume you were off for six weeks. Perhaps two weeks at 10 mg is not long enough to achieve effectiveness for your needs.
Perhaps your fear of passing out (you don't say whether you actually have passed out)
is something you need to address with a therapist if it persists.
