Cervical cancer.

Cervical cancer.

I've never had a pap smear or anything...Im alittle afraid to get one. So I tried to check myself for cervical cancer and I felt a rough patch on my cervix... Its freaking me out really bad...Is it normal for a 15 year old girl to have a rough path on her cervix?

Please place your fear aside.  IMO, the fear of not knowing what your "rough patch" is should be motivation enough to make that appointment, as it is impossible to "check myself" for cervical cancer.  This can only be accomplished by a pelvic examination and PAP smear -- both of which are painless.

Please let me know how you make out.

your very young. chances of it being cancer i would say is slim. but you need to go get pap done for peace of mind. ask your mom to take you am sure she will, tell her your scared and why , you should be able to go to her . keep in touch

It's very unusual for a girl your age to have had a pap smear by now, so please relax.  Your mom will have to take you and it's nothing to be afraid of, or embarrased by.

How did you check your own cervix?  There is absolutely no way that you know you have a rough patch on your cervix.  While I understand that you are worrying yourself about this....there is a very simple way to put your mind at ease....that would be to go and get an exam done that would include an internal and a PAP.  You have no way of knowing what you are feeling, you aren't trained to know how to assess for problems, plus, you dont have the proper equipment necessary to actually check the cervix.

All girls should begin having regular (yearly) GYN exams with PAP smears at the time they become sexually active, or at about the age of 17 if not active.

Speak with your Mom or other trusted adult about this so that you can arrange for an appt.  While you certainly will have some anxiety about the first exam, I think it will put your mind at rest.  The exam itself is pretty quick, and while it causes some brief discomfort, it is not as bad as you would imagine.

Be sure you are confiding in whatever trusted adult you feel comfortable with about this.
