Cipralex and Trazodone

Hello everyone,
I have had anxiety for a while now and for about 2 months it has taken over my sleeping, My nightmares seem so real that I wake up crying, heart pounding, shaking, and cant get back to sleep. I am only getting 1-2 hours of sleep a night and its broken sleep at that, during the day it seems like my anxiety is getting worse and worse from not sleeping.
My went to visit my doctor about my anxiety and sleeping issues and he has put me on Cipralex 10mg dosage a day and also prescribed me 50mg of trazodone to be taken at bedtime to help me sleep.
Does anyone take these prescriptions? if so could I please get some feedback on them?

So I took my cipralex yesterday afternoon around 1:30pm, I had some pretty weird side effects which started around 2pm ... my whole body went numb and i couldnt move, i just sat with my head in my hands for 1 1/2 hours, at one point I was looking at the carpet and it seemed like it was moving (hallucinations) I had body tremors, everything felt like it was in slow motion, my stomach was really upset, and i felt more ancious and didnt want anyone around me... by 5pm i was feeling much better but still a little foggy for rest of the evening. I took the Trazodone around 9pm and was sleeping at my usual time of 10pm. I woke up about 5 times threw out the night (which is usual for me)
Today i am a zombie, its hard to think, i feel like a space cadet lol. my stomach is still upset and i dont want anything to eat, but i forced some breaky down. my head still feels like it weighs 80 lbs. I keep clenching my jaw, i stop myself the second i notice.
I am going to be contacting my doctor this morning since none of these symptoms seem normal,  I have been reading up on prescriptions and i had alot of the severe side effects from the cipralex and its really scaring me. I will let everyone know what happens next...

Namaste,

Cipralex is mainly used for treating depression. SSRIs work by preventing serotonin from being reabsorbed back into the nerve cells in the brain. This helps prolong the mood lightening effect of any released serotonin. In this way, Cipralex helps relieve depression, panic and fear.

Trazodone is an tetracyclic antidepressant medication. It is thought to increase the activity of one of the brain chemicals (serotonin) which may become unbalanced and cause depression. It may also be used for relief of anxiety disorders (eg, sleeplessness, tension) and chronic pain.

Trazodone is used to treat depression.

Both medications are used to treat depression although each works in a different fashion, the Trazadone being an older medication that is less prescribed for depression and more prescribed to aid sleep.

The Cipraliex will take some time (3-4 weeks) before you start to feel its' full effects.

For many people trazadone has a very sedating quality which makes it useful for those suffering from insomnia, especially if it's related to depression or anxiety. Unfortunately, on a small population, it has almost no effect, like the writer above and myself.

Take the medications as prescribed and you should see some improvement in your sleep in a few days and with your general mood in about 3 weeks, so be patient and keep a positive attitude since that has a real effect on your overall mood.

If these medications don't work for you and they may not, make sure you talk with your healthcare provider so that adjustments in dosages can be made or a change in the medication itself can be made, if appropriate.

I hope this information helps.

Let us know how you're doing and take care of yourself.

Michael

I was  recently  put on  trazadone  for sleep --and  had been  taking  .05 mg of lorazepam for many yrs.  after  being  put on lipitor  for  cholesterol and atenolol (it  just  stopped working) for  any sleep at all.  I stay awake all night some nights --its like my mind won't  shut off for sleep- I did  try the trazdone --for two nights  -- did nothing  for  sleep or anything-  I had a severe  migrainne  headache next  morning after taking the trazadone. It  does not work  for me at all- Hope you have  better  luck with  it-- Its horrible to  watch the clock all  night long and never  get to sleep.
Good luck  in finding  some  sleep  aid that  will work for you. sincerely  Lodow
