Citalopram muscle twitches: reassurance please?

Citalopram muscle twitches: reassurance please?

Hi all

First post on here so forgive me if it's been covered elsewhere.

I Have been on 20mg of Citalopram for approx 3mths now. Initially I was taking diazepam alongside this up until about 3.5weeks ago when my tapering for diazepam ended.

However, I noticed that just before ending the diazepam altogether I started getting more and more nervous, jittery and a very slight shakiness started to occur (not noticeable to anyone else, that's how slight it is). Now however I have started to get muscle twitches, mainly when relaxing/dozing off or asleep...
I have not had these twitches prior to this.

Can anyone relate to this, as I am beginning to worry.

Could it be that the diazepam was masking some of the Citalopram effects, which are now presenting after I stopped the Diaz?

Reassurance would be great, if you can relate.

Be strong!

When I was going through my experience with panic and anxiety, I would get muscle twitches all the time, especially when I was relaxing.  When we are nervous, we usually tense up (even when we do not notice  this) and our muscles can and do get tired in my opinion.  I also probably tended to notice any and every little thing going on in my body, especially when I was coming off or starting a new medication like you are doing right now.

Are you able to get counseling?  For me, just talking it over wth someone, helped me through many of my concerns because as I tended to get over one, another one would take its place...keep us posted!

Hi Cj29

Many thanks for the reply, much appreciated!
I must admit that my doc was initially going to set up some CBT/counseling but when I saw him last he thought it was not necessary.
Might actually go back and speak to him again and see if he can arrange something.

Will update when I get some news or info!

Cheers again!
