Clonazepam Withdrawal

Clonazepam Withdrawal

I've been off Klonipin (klonopin) for well over a year now and continue to have bizarre symptoms. My face is numb and tingly. Several doctors from just about every specialty have missed the diagnosis and it wasn't until I found this forum that I realized what what actually happening to me.
My legs sweat. Now that's just about the strangest thing (next to my facial weirdities) that's EVER happened to me. Using an infrared thermometer I found my knees to be 99 degrees and my feet were 78 degrees; my shins were clammy and my feet were freezing. My right hand is frozen and my left is 'normal'.
The oddest and most troubling symptoms are in my face. I feel like there's a clothespin next to my left eye; the orbit nearest my ear feels numb and tingly. It's as if I'd been slapped to the ground about three minutes prior and my face is warm and just about to swell up.
Social anxiety and lack of sleep are the norm; I spend most of my days in bed with chronic fatigue.
I had been on heavy opiates (fentenyl patches) for several years; I'm HLA-B27 positive and have had terrible pain issues all of my life. The diagnosis of inflammatory spondylitis almost fits--but not quite. I'm sixty years old, look forty and feel 90. It would be nice to hear from someone that has had these symptoms actually disappear from their lives... I'm watching the calendar swhish past... Thanks for your support.

I am a clinician myself and very green in the field.  My doctor put me on Gabitril 4mg tablets twice a day in combination with clonazepam 0.5mg twice a day to help with chronic debilitating migrane (migraine) headaches.  When I first started I asked him many times if there would be any addictive potential with the clonazepam since it was a benzo.  He repeatedly told me that it was must neglible dosage and that it was just helping to boost the effectiveness of the gabitril in preventing my headaches.  I continued on this regimen without question for about a year.  At first my headaches were greatly reduced then they started up again, my doctor then just uped the clonazepam to 1mg bid with the Gabitril.  I took this for about 9 months.  Never in all of that time, or before hand did I even have anxiety attacks ect.  Then about a month ago I started to have increasing headaches again and decided that I wanted to get off all meds.  So I went cold turkey about 3 weeks ago and have been having a very hard time.  At first I thought I had caught the flu with severe nausea, diarrhea, and extreme muscle aches.  I treated those symptoms with the occasional vicodin, and the lack of sleep with Ambien, not realizing that these meds are just temporarily reducing my symptoms.  I am hurt that my doctor would put me on something so addictive, but I must take some blame for blindly following advise without looking things up.  Do I need to see a doctor to help me withdraw, or do some people manage it on their own successfully.  I am ashamed of feeling "crazy" and always hurting all over my body.  I am not a drug addict, or didn't think I was, and never got any feeling of relief or calmness from the drug.  But holy hell am I getting withdrawals. Help/  Advise?
