Concerns about adverse reactions with Celexa

I was put on 10 mg. Celexa  to treat my anxiety. After 6 days, I started having severe flushing of the head and neck as well as hot, sharp tingling sensations (paresthesia) all over my body. It also caused me to feel almost suicidal, so my doctor recommended that I stop the drug immediately. He said there was no need to taper down since I had only been on it for 6 days. Is this good advice? I have been off Celexa for 2 days, and the hot flushes and tingling sensation are keeping me up all night. Help!!! When will these symptoms subside? This isn't permanent, is it?

Just to add, Celexa often has a side effect of causing the sweats.  So does it's cousin Lexapro.  I think you'll be fine in a couple of days.

Your doctors advice to immediately stop the Celexa after 6 days was good advice. You would have had to have been on it much longer to worry about w/d problems. I would urge you to call your doctors office and request his answering service to contact him or the doctor on call and have them call you. While you are waiting, call your local pharmacist and tell him/her what is going on. They are DOCTORS of Pharmacology and while they cannot tell you to alter your meds in any way or to take something that your doctor has not perscribed, they can talk to you about your symptoms and I'm sure they will be able to reassure you.
You'll be fine.
Drink lots of water to help flush it out of your system.
Let us know how you're doing, OK?

You probably still have some of the medication in your system, and it's continuing to affect you.  When in doubt always call your prescribing doctor and let him know how you are feeling, and let him advise you.  Since the symptoms started with the medication, they should go away after it's completely out of your system.  But don't give up on meds, this may just not be the one for you, it is often trial and error as to what will work for us.  Finding the right one is frustrating at times but well worth it when you fine one that does help you.  Hang in there and take care.
