Diazepam

I have  been on 2 mg diazepam at night for just over a month now.  I got them from abroad and my doctor does not know I am on them.  I also take Venlafaxine 75 mg morning and 37.5 mg at night.  My question is how do I wean off the diazepam.  My tablets cannot be separated as they are in capsule form.  I really want to stop them but cannot visit my doctor.  Could I just stop taking them? Or take them every other night for a week and then stop?  Your advice would be valuable.

My spelling was a bit lax above, should have been benzodiazepines.   Here is a link that should give you some real assist.  You are obviously sensitive about seeing your doc which is understandable, but you would be surprised at how doctors respond to such info from their patients.  Doubtful he would be judgemental, but he would be required to enter it into your medical history.  It would be much more practical to detox using tabs instead of liquid or capsules.  Here's the link:

That's where doctors come into play. We might just jump off tablets and end up doing more harm than good to ourselves. Have to find out if it is an addictive form of medication or not. If it is then you won't be just jumping off it. I am sure you can find that out on a lot of sites that sell or even make the tablets. Benzos is what you are looking for by way of wording. Only a much longer word. They can be the addictive ones. Good luck to you anyway and I hope all goes well for you.

Hi everyone
Thanks for your comments.  Mike, I received the medication from my sister in law abroad who works for a pharmaceutical (spelling??) company and they are definately the real deal and they can come in capsule form called Diazem, but thanks for your concern.  I wouldn't actually buy medication from the internet as like you said you don't know if what you are getting is actually that.  I have read information on weaning off diazepam and that is how I came accross this website.  My problem is that I only have 2 mg capsules so you can't reduce them.  I don't want my doctor to know for work reasons.  I think I will just ask my sister in law to get me liquid form diazepam so I can wean off it correctly ie 1mg for 1-2 weeks and then 0.5 mg for 1 -2 weeks then stop.  My question really was can you just stop as I was on such a low dose anyway (only 2 mg at night)?

I respectfully disagree somewhat that drugs obtained through the internet from India, etc are high risk.  I know there is some of that, but in my experience I have obtained generic equivalents several times that are just as effective as buying them at the local pharmacy but a lot more affordable.

With regard to weaning from valium (diazepam), you are, at your stated dosage, probably somewhat addicted by now.  You are faced with a challenge, but one that could be much worse.  The mental anguish detoxing from benzodiazepams can be excrutiating and tortuous, mentally and to a degree, physically.  It is paramount that you do it very methodically and the key principle is you have taper your dosage.  There is a great website (British) out there that tells very scientifically how to go about this.  I suggest you read it carefully before you attempt to go through it, especially if you're doing it alone.  Just remember, your mind will play some very strange tricks on you during the process, so you have to try to hold on to the reality that it is just the process and the lack of the drug that is making you think a certain way.  You should be fine if you do this right.  Good luck.

Mike is right...go see a doctor.  You need medical expertise here and we're not doctors.  We're simply here to comfort each other in our medical problems that require prescription drugs.

The medical industry is out there to help and not judge.  All the best.

First of all, taking prescriptions from "abroad" is very dangerous. In fact, studies have shown that it is more dangerous than buying herion from a total stranger in New York City. There was a huge investigation done that showed that a LARGE percentage of these pills are NOT actually what they say they are. They are cleverly disguised to give the appearance of the actual medicine. This same investigation showed that there is not even a lick of the actual drug stated on the bottle - in actuality, it is things like drywall, plaster, and even CONCRETE. Sounds rediculous, huh? It is not - these things are very hard to regulate. Secondly, (and please someone prove me wrong as i hope that I am) I have never heard of diazepam coming in capsule form - all that I have ever seen or heard of is in a tablet of some sort.

Why did you not just get this from a doctor? Sure doctors are a little expensive to see if you have no money; however, the prescription itself is not that expensive at all.

There are several things that you can do - the best one would be to see your doctor anyway.  They are not there to judge and they realize the realities of the desire to get medicine from "abroad" because it "seems" easier to get and are less expensive and you do not have to see a doctor. This does not mean the the doc will automatically label you as a drug seeker and not prescribe you anything.

However, should you still decide to not take that advice, and you think that what you have is really diazepam, then your suggested method would really be your only option.

Mike
