Do these symptoms sound familiar of anxiety

Hi all.

I hate to post here but i have been worrying for a while that i may be suffering from either depression/anxiety or something else.

Back in May i started to have a strange feeling in my legs as if they were like jelly.

They only felt like jelly when i was sitting down really and when i got up to walk they felt fine, no weakness at all.

I then developed pins and needles in my legs and feet at the same time as the jelly legs. At one point my toes on my right foot felt like i was holding them in a fire, this only lasted about 18 hours.

Around about a month later i starter to feel the jelly feeling in my hands and arms.

At times i would be holding my phone and would feel a jolt go through my hand and would drop the phone.

My right hand was also shaking quite a bit.

I was then presented with tingling in my face, lips, scalp and chest which was quite worrying.

After that i then started getting frequent urination which lasted about 3 weeks only to be replaced with a pain in my testicle and also around my rectum.

Next symptoms seemed to be a strange crawling in my back then the centre of my back felt like someone was holding a match to it this seemed to last a couple of days, i have also had back and neck ache for a couple of weeks too.

I've been to the doctor and they have done a lot of blood tests and all have come back fine.

Just wondering where i go from here and whether or not this sounded at all like symptoms of anxiety?

Hope you are all well and look forward to your views.

Regards

David

Hi there,

And thanks for the reply to my post, i will try and answer your questions as best i can.

About 5 years ago i had a panic attack whilst on holiday.

When i returned i was very anxious and had been for about 6 months but took no medication instead was hypnotised.

This worked wonders until about a year later i was on holiday again and came over very dizzy.

I went to the doctors who said this was also anxiety presenting itself in a different way.

This lasted about 8 months until the doctor decided to give me medication for anxiety SSRI's

I tried about 3 different types which didn't work so seeked the help of a psychiatrist which i paid for privately.

He tried me on loads of different medications and no joy until he asked me to come off one and establish a base line for about a couple of weeks.

I felt so much better when i came off them that i didn't go back to see him to start the new medication.

Then as above back in May/June time i started getting this weird sensation in my legs.

I think i worried my self sick about what it was that i started to feel really down and at a loss as to what was wrong with me.

The doctors kept saying go away and come back in a month if no better.

I then went back to see my psychiatrist so that he could treat me for my depressive state and low mood and the fact i wasnt sleeping.

He started me on mirtazapine 15mg then up to 35mg.

I think i had about three weeks with no symptoms then i started to have frequent urination.

I spoke to him about this and he said i should come off mirtazapine and see how i got on.

I did so and started pregabalin but the frequent urination hadn't passed.

I am 30 years old and only drink sociably and a couple of times during the week.

I keep searching the net and coming up with MS and i think its just making me worse, but i need to get to the bottom of what is going on with me.

I tempted to ask is i can start back on mirtazapine as well as pregablin.

In between this i had been to the doctors who took bloods to check for a whole heap of things, one of which was Vit d and B12, the vit d came back a bit low so addressed that and now that is back to where it should be.

They also did liver and kidney function thyroid, autoimmune screen and urine sample when i had the frequent urination.

Job and home life are fine.

Dn't know what else to put at the moment, look forward to your reply.

Hello and welcome!

Let me ask you a few questions...do you have any kind of preexisting medical problems, or take any medications?  How old are you?  Any drug or alcohol abuse?  Do you have any history of anxiety, depression, or other mental illness?

When these symptoms started, was there any kind of occurrence prior to the onset, like an accident, injury?

Do you FEEL anxious or depressed at all?  Any major stresses, traumas or losses in your life recently prior to the onset of the symptoms?  How about any major life changes (ie marriage, divorce, new job, losing a job, moving, etc)?  Have you seen a specialist of any kind, like a Neurologist?  What kinds of tests/lab work were done?

If you can answer some of these questions, we'll better be able to make some recommendations.  Just at first glance, your symptoms seem to be neurological in nature, but it's hard to say without more info.  Anxiety most certainly can cause a variety of physical symptoms, but as you probably already know, it's very important to thoroughly rule out a physical/medical problem first before making the assumption that anxiety is the culprit.  You definitely did the right thing by going to your doctor, I'm just wondering how thorough of an assessment you had.

I'll keep an eye out for your reply, hang in there!
