Yup - I'd have the hormones checked by a Dr. who knows and deals with hormones. I had/have a hormonal imbalance and didn't know it. Never had a history of anxiety til about 2 years ago. It's getting better since I found the right Dr. I'm now on bio identical hormone cream and it has done wonders.
Got to agree with Jake here, if it's hormones, antidepressants are the wrong way to go. You need to see a doctor. If you can afford it, because they're very expensive and don't take insurance usually, there's a group of psychiatrists called functional physicians who will actually act like doctors, imagine that. They'll check you hormone levels, endocrine system, blood sugar, and try to eliminate any physiological cause. Personally, I can't afford it, or get to the couple who practice around here, but they do exist. Natural hormone treatments can work after some experimentation, so you don't necessarily have to even go on hormone therapy and its attendant risk of cancer and such.
Wellbutrin is for depression, and often increases anxiety, so don't take that one. And yes, the fact is, nearly everyone taking an antidepressant still suffers from anxiety. They help, but they seldom deal with the problem completely. Their original purpose was to be an adjunct to talk therapy, because talk therapy is very difficult when a person is extremely depressed or anxious. Unfortunately, they've become a way of life because talk therapy isn't so hot, either, in terms of success rate. It's a process of finding the right state of mind and the right therapist or medication, but don't expect complete cure other than by your own efforts.
Why not fix the Problem with the Hormones?
