Dr. okayed me to go from 5mg to 2.5mg Lexapro...

25 male. Anxiety sufferer.

So the Dr. told me I could go from 5mg Lexapro to 2.5mg Lexapro if I wanted to.

I've only been on Lexapro 5mg for a little over a month now.

Do I need to "have a weaning regiment" from going from 5mg to 2.5mg or should I be safe to just go to 2.5mg starting tomorrow night?

He said I could go down to 2.5mg b/c I told him I feel good... and have no anxiety... but have vivid dreams... nightmares almost.. and I sleep good... but wake up feeling like I was in an action packed horror movie... I can't say I've had a "good" dream sense I've been on lexapro... and I dream everynight with this stuff it seems like. lol.
It's not a terrible thing, but maybe going from 5mg to 2.5 will help that some? And it may help with my sexual dysfunction. *Can't get off* very easily while taking 5mg.

Thanks for your input.

ps: I know 5mg isn't a whole lot from what people say... and Lexapro is a very mild anti depressant. True?

I think that it would be ok to drop down like the doc told u to do and also on comment to the getting off i was having the same problem with celexa and he changed me to celebrex now so hope that the problem goes away he says that celebrex is less side effects of the sexual disfunction
hope all goes good and keep up the great job

I think you will tolerate the adjustment just fine.  Keep those lines of communication open with your doc if you start feeling poorly.  I think you will be just fine.

Keep up with everything else you're doing for the anxiety!

Good luck.

I take 10 mg with no side effects and great help.  I have considered talking to my dr. about jumping up to the 20 mg dosage as that is what I have read is more effective for anxiety and 10 is for depression... I still experience some anxiety and depression with the 10 mg dosage even though it's greatly improved.

My point is... if your dr. told you it was ok to drop down to 2.5 mg... then do it.  No adjustment should be necessary as this dosage is probably a placebo effect for you.  :-)  Maybe you just needed to get your anxiety out in the open and be accepted and now you have healed.

You have not been on it that long and let me applaud you for talking to your doctor about it.  So many people try to 'self medicate' which can cause alot of problems and be down right dangerous.  I have never been on Lexapro before but I have been on other SSRIs.  While I have not weaned off after just a month, trusting your doctor, I believe is a what you should do.  However, if you are having problems going down in dosage, talk to him/her with your concerns.  Just remember that there might be some side effects from dosage adjustments, but you will be fine and the body does a good job adjusting.

Hi there I havent been on the meds you mention, but I would think it would be fine to drop to 2.5mgs as you havent been on them long, if you had been on a drug longer then yes I would do it slower, I would do as the doctor said,
take care,
janis.
