Easily dilated pupils, trouble focusing from ssri

by dmbfan07cb, May 13, 2008 04:13PM
Anyone ever get this side effect from an SSRI like prozac?  I notice when i'm on an ssri my pupils will dilate much easier in low light but if I look at something bright they return to a smaller size so they are not constantly dilated. but I can be in a low lit room and my pupils will be much bigger than they would have been before taking prozac.  Also I notice I have trouble focusing on things, especilly when I'm close to it.  i often have to look away and look back, or rub my eyes to get focused right.

anyone?

thanks

Yes, Prozac is going to dilate your pupils--all SSRI's do. This is because they boost serotonin levels. And when your pupils are dilated, your vision is going to be blurry at times.

Have you ever seen the pupils of someone on LSD or magic mushrooms? Maybe not, but if you have, you'll notice that their pupils are REALLY, REALLY HUGE. These drugs also affect serotonin levels, but in a much more pronounced fashion.

Yes it does and I have the same problem. I'm very worried about this issue, so stop the medication and I only hope my eyes come to normal again. Does anybody know if dilated pupils is a permanment side effect of the drug fluoxatine?
Thxs.

Yuppers

My vision was 110% GREAT "I was one of the few that could even see really well in the dark"
They put me on Prozac "that did nothing good" and My vision got all sorts of blurry.
I actually went into the Dr's and was asking for some test...they checked my eyes, and said my vision was really bad.........but then I explained to them it wasnt like that all the time.

They had no clue it was from the Prozac...I had to find out myself, lol
I havent took it in about 5- 6 mths..and I still get bouts of blurry vision. "Without any anxiety at all"
