Effoxor XR

by MorningDew79, Jun 09, 2007 12:00AM
My doctor has prescribed be effoxor xr for my anxiety. I have taken Paxil in the past and I did not like the side effects. Does anyone have any experience with this drug and did it help you? Was there less symptoms then Paxil or other drugs?

To: anxiety
I have been on Effexor for the past 5 years.  It certainly does help the anxiety and I may be wrong but it doesn't help with weight gain. In fact I have become a little to complacent. I have no side effects except weight gain but I also quit smoking/was on tamoxofen, had a bad fall and didn't exercise for 5 years because I was afraid of falling etc. etc. etc.  I am 67 and feel I have a big mountain to climb but at least I am not anxious.  I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder 6 months ago.
Hope I have been helpful.

Everyone is totally different in what meds work for them. I had an absolutely horrible experience with effexor and I gave it 8 weeks to work.  You have to give it the full 6-8 weeks to see how your body will react to any med. I've heard good things, as the above post, about effexor but it really messed me up and made my depresssion/anxiety very, very, very bad.  I hope though it works for you.  You'll know though.  Best........

I was on Effexor XR also for a while.  My dr told me to allow 2-3 weeks for my body to adjust to the medication.  It did work for me I have to say.  Unfortunately, I had to stop taking it, for 2 reasons...it made me sick to my stomach everyday, oddly after taking it for a couple months, and I started to gag everytime I put the pill to my mouth, I don't know why, couldn't handle the taste of it, I tried everything to try and take it. And I couldn't afford my co-pay to continue taking it.
But like another person said, it works differant for everyone.  I hope it works for you :)

I've been on Effexor XR for about 5 years and, up until now, have had positive results. I curently take 150 mg/day (mornings) and suffer no side effects. I think I either need to increase my dosage or possibly switch meds as I feel that it is no longer working as well as it once did. Overall, it's a good med for anxiety.
