Emetephobia

by LadyComfort318, Mar 09, 2008 10:03PM
I have this awful fear of throwing up. I have dealt with it all my life. I gave birth 9 months ago. I am worried that my fear will interefere with my job as a mom. I want nothing to do with it. I can't hear it, smell it, or do it. I had a nasty stomach bug/food poisoning 2 weeks ago. I had to go to the ER twice because I felt so bad. I did throw up and think I am getting better with my phobia. I go into such panic attacks over it. Although I feel I am getting better, I don't want to go back to being an emotional wreck.

Anyone else feel that way?

Not to be harsh here Sweetie, nobody I know likes to toss their cookies, but if you don't want to go back to being an "emotional wreck," then go back to your doctor! You say you've suffered with this your whole life, have you ever considered seeking some therapy to find out why you have this aversion to throwing up? You say you just gave birth 9 months ago. (Congratulations!) You also say you can't "hear it or smell it......" I've had two kids and I know they did a mighty lot of throwing up when they were babies. So, you've obviously been able to be around it, hearing it and smelling it. Is baby barf different then what you're talking about?
Do some research here on the forum. I know there are other folks with the same aversion as yours. Perhaps they have some wisdom for you. But I would still talk to my doctor about this. Dealing with it for the REST of your life just be an option!
Good luck!
Peace

Sorry.........that last sentence should have read "Dealing with it for the REST of your life should NOT be an option!"
