Emetophobia and Weight

Curious to hear from anybody else suffering from emetophobia, on how they manage to maintain any sort of healthy weight? I am no way near the average weight for somebody of my age. Simple fact is days can come and go and food is simply not wanted. Oh, I do my best to eat. But there are those times when the last thing an emetophobic needs is food in the stomach. For obvious reasons of fear of having something in the stomach to throw back up. So if anybody would like to join in and share a few words on weight, or how you manage to eat to keep any sort of weight on you, please feel free to do so. Or even the sort of foods you might eat.

Thanks in advance to anybody who does reply.

Hi
I suffer from severe emetophobia however have not had a problem with weight. I'm a hearty eater and love food and cooking. I do however have trouble eating meat and fish. I always over cook it and only eat it if Im the one cooking it to ensure it is completely done. My family thinks Im in sane and don't understand my phobia. I only have panic attacks when I feel sick or if someone around me says they are/were sick. I carry anti nausea pills with me everywhere. When I have been sick (I think I had stomach flu a month ago) I manage to psych myself out of the nausea. It all just comes out the other end,
I hope this makes sense, I am going to see a psychologist about this for the first time next week.

Let me know how things are going for you..

Hi - I don't suffer from keeping a healthy weight but I had to google that word and I have it lol
I frequently pass out or nearly pass out when my stomach hurts because I am so afraid of throwing up.
It's no laughing matter, but it's nice to put a word to what I have.
I suffer from generalized anxiety with panic so it pretty much falls under that anyway, but no one else I know panics as much as I do.

Good luck with your situation.  I would suggest to start small and work your way up.  It's better to eat something than nothing - eat a small amount of your favorite food, and only your favorite food, and you may become more comfortable eating other things.

Thanks for the answer. Going through a period of medication testing at the moment. As if the GP is trying to find the right tablets for me. Have been to hospital having a lot of blood tests done to make sure nothing physical was wrong. All negative. Then oddly I had a local clinic refer me to a hospital that deals with with mental matters ( nice way of putting it ). The hospital in question is miles away and only refered me back to the local clinic. Nerves were bad enough at the thought of having to stay in hospital. With me it is when I eat, it is kind of like the mind and the body fight with each other. The body can't half hurt at times. That can stop you eating. Oddly the choice of 1 of the tablets that I was placed on was Serenace. Only reason I can see for this is that it stops vomiting and the feeling of wanting to throw up. Plus a side effect is weight gain. Other than that it just seemed like an odd choice of tablet. But I do have bits and pieces at certain hours of the day. Just find night hours harder to eat. Other medication is just for GAD. That needs a week to kick in and 1st one is only today. But yet another visit to GP later. My weight had got that bad. Case of getting the weight / strength back up. Then taken it on from there.
