Excessive sweating

by drazotino, Dec 17, 2007 05:13PM
I was wondering if anyone has problems with excessive sweating and what they have found to work for them? For years now I have had a problem with excessive sweating when I get nervous. I never understood if I would sweat because I got nervous. Or if I would get nervous because I knew I would sweat. But it's horrible. I'll be in a situation and just start sweating, like literally dripping down my face. And it's extremely embarrassing. And it seems the more I sweat, the more nervous and embarrassed I get, and I just continue sweating even more. It's like a snowball effect.

I heard of something called hyper-hydrosis. Which is excessive sweating, but from everything I have read, it's usually only excessive sweating of the palms and back and feet. Not the face. The only place I sweat excessively is my face. I tried talking to some people about it and they felt maybe it was a social anxiety type disorder that I had. But I went to a doctor's office. Tried explaining it to them and they couldn't really tell me what they thought was wrong. They gave me some xanax for "anxiety" but it doesn't seem to help. I'm not sure what the issue is.

Sometimes I'll be in a situation where I think I'm going to be nervous and sweat, and I'm completely fine. Then other times I will be in a situation where I don't think I'll have a problem at all and then I just start sweating. Like for example I was going out to eat with my family recently. At some restaurant, it wasn't crowded or anything. We sat down, I was feeling fine for about 10 minutes and it just hit me. I started getting really warm. And I started sweating a bit, then I could feel it dripping down my face and I couldn't stop it. It was so embarassing.

Someone please help me. What can I do?

I am having the same exact problem to a tee.  Its only in my face and head.  Water can pour off like a faucet.   My doctor also gave me xanex which I'm not comfortable taking except for rare occasions.   I also cannot fine anything on the internet.    Did you find out anything?
Someone suggested to me that it may be metal toxcity.
I have severe neck degeneration problems and also wonder if it might be from that?

I have the same exact problem with my sweating, my daughter always looks at me and says your a water foution. I have fibromyalgia, highblood presure, thioriod, insomnia, irrital bowel, gas in my upper chest, depression, chronic fatigue. So I'm on alot of meds so I really don't know if its from any of that or not. But I just pour out sweat from my face and neck and back but my face is the worst. There has to be some kind of medicine to help us. It's can be freezing outside or inside and I just start pouring sweat for no reason. If you could help if anyone knows a medicine to help or anything to help?
