Extreme anxiety and xanax

I get panic attacks and struggle with anxiety daily. Recently it's getting worse. I feel dizzy, like my heart is pounding super fast and hard, short of breath, and I always feel nervous. It almost feels like im having a heart attack. I have went to the ER before and they told me I was completely normal and it was just me having a panic attack. I was prescribed .25mg Xanax but I am so freaked out by medicine I'm scared to take it because i'm afraid i'm going to freak out even worse, but somethings got to give because i'm to the point where I can't even leave my house and i'm not being the fun mom for my little man like I wish I could because i'm always feeling so terrible. I guess my main question is anyone who is afraid of medicine like me how did Xanax make you feel? and can anyone relate because I feel so alone through this.

I always fear taking new meds for the first time. Xanax has been good for me. was prescribed 0.5 as needed. I actually have taken 1 1/2 before when my anxiety got real bad which was 0.75mg. That sort of makes me blah. Read up on your meds. Doctors usually know what they are doing. I had to go to the doctor today for a sinus/upper respiratory infection. I got 2 shots in the tush and some antibiotics and nasal spray. Even though I trust the doctor, I still read up on things like precautions and medication interactions.

I'm sorry you're going through this!

I, too, didn't want to take medicine for anxiety.  But I got to the point you are now, and knew I needed help.  For me, that help was a combination of xanax and therapy.  You've been prescribed a very low dose of xanax.  For most people, it takes the edge off the anxiety, and may cause sleepiness.  For me, personally, it helps me relax.

I'd really encourage you to find a counselor you can talk to.  Medication can help the symptoms of anxiety, but a good therapist/psychologist, etc. can help us ID triggers and develop techniques to manage our anxiety.

I know it's tough - hang in there!

I also feel these exact same symptoms they are terrifying they can cause us to lose hope and make us less fun.  I was prescribed larazopram instead of xanex though. At first it was working for me but then as time went on I could tell that it wasn't working as good as it once had.  I've beenvto the ER multiple times because I thought I was going to stop breathing or that I was going to have a heart attack I'm only 20 and the doctor said people my age usually don't have heart attacks this early in life.  Just know that you are not alone.
