Flight Anxiety & Xanax

Dear Dr,

I was prescribed 0.25mg of Xanax by my family doctor, to help me fly. It did not work, on the way back I took 2 pills (0.25mg x 2) and it was still hard to tell whether it worked or not, but the situation was much better when i was going back, rather then flying to wherever i was flying.

My question is, after much research on the net, it seems like a low dosage to me to help with my extreme fear of flying, is it worth visiting another doctor for a dosage adjustment? from your expirience, what helps? does xanax help at all, if so at what dosage?

Thank you in advance

I take .25 of xanax as needed. Usually only if I really need it because it can be addictive. We are on a low dosage, but still it is necessary not to abuse it. I hate to fly, so I would want to take a whole bottle.(LOL) That is a low dosage for flying. I would consult your physician and see what he/she has to say. Just tell them it seemed to not help with the .25. Xanax .25 works pretty well for me with the anxiety that I have, but I have never had to fly and use it. I really don't think that .25 would cut it for me. I would just go to doctor and ask them.

i also take xanax and since you were just given it, it might not have had a full effect on you. xanax really doesn't help with fears it is not going to cure you. its uses are for for panic and anxiety attacks to help your mind and body calm down. you might need to xanax and have sessions with someone to help you overcome your fears
