When my anxiety is high I start feeling like I have a lump in my throat and I can't breathe. I can totally relate! I am pregnant so I can't take some of the traditional med's for anxiety. However ... when I feel like I am getting anxious and nervous I take one benedryl and it helps my throat and nose feel clear and it has something in it that relaxes me. I am told by the doc's that a lot of people use benedryl for anxiety .. and can take 2 to help sleep. It is safer then a lot of other med's ... and if your allergic to stuff its good for that too because its used for allergic reactions as well!
Good luck ..
PS .. the med you mentioned made me suicidal and I had never been before so I would NOT recommend it!!!
Hi..
Good tips on the whys of anxiety...as well as a reminder to us all that anxiety can cause a multitude of physical difficulties.
It is very true that when our anxious mind focuses on a body part...the tongue in your case...all kinds of imaginings begin!
Using a Vit C drop..or as I do..a peppermint lozenger...is a good way to deflect fears.
When I review various ailments that have caused me physical and mental distress, I see a pattern. Something happens: my mind reacts in fear. But. With or without a doctor's visit....symptoms disappear. Some don't as they may be allergy related...but still..are no cause for a meltdown.
Best....
This meds issue seems to be a problem for a lot of us here. I am even scared to take a paracetamol too unless I am desperate.
I too worry that I am allergic to things. I had pleurisy and took antibiotics and they always make me feel dizzy. Now I worry that they have damaged my balance system as I will never get out of it and am scared if I take anything else it will make me really ill so I know how you are feeling.
Has anyone got better WITHOUT meds? I am sure it will take longer but it must be possible!!
My throat keeps feeling like a dry flap is coming over it and then I panic that I can't swallow but sucking something or having a drink is a good idea.
Quick update. I wanted to give you a quick tip that has worked for me when it comes to taking the focus off of your tongue.
I try to keep a bag of hard candies or halls around me, the vitamin c ones. By sucking on the candies or halls. It takes my mind off of my tongue. As you do this, your mind will stop focusing on your tongue and making you aware that it exist.
Hi!
I'm in no way a doctor or an expert but it definitely sounds like anxiety. I had the same issues you are going through. You start noticing things about your body that you never even knew existed. Like your tongue for instance. it's not swollen it's just now you are focusing on your tongue and the more you concentrate on something when you do have an anxiety disorder, the more you start noticing it's there. The tongue is one of the tuffest (not sure if I spelled that right) muscles in your body so it does feel swollen if you are thinking about it.
Good thing is, it will stop feeling that way. Now that you can tell yourself that its just your anxiety. You will stop focusing on it : )
I hope that helps out a bit.
