Last night, I went to bed with my wife... tried watching some tv and just tried to relax and get sleepy. Latley I've been having this sensitive gag reflexBabinski's reflex Infantile reflexes Moro reflex Urge incontinence... which I think is caused by this tight feeling in my throatCancer - throat or larynx Throat swab culture that I get NON-STOP! For almost 2 weeks now!!! I've also been experiencing IBS symptoms for about a month or more now! And not much of an appetite at all!!!
I'm feeling sick!!!
Yesterday, I woke up, and was kinda anxious... and had the tight throatCancer - throat or larynx Throat swab culture feeling kinda... had some IBS issues in the morning... then my wife and I took our daughter to the Zoo.
I went to bed... tried to relax... watched some tv, wrote in my journal... and finally fell asleep... I woke up at 3:45am... I fell asleep on my arm... and I woke up and it was COMPLETELY LIMP. lol. I was like "Gosh dangit!" lol.
I then tried falling back asleep, but I felt wide awake... and felt like I didnt sleep those past 3 hours...
I felt the tight throat feeling.... and it was getting unbearable... I coughed a couple of times trying to clear my throat of a little mucous... and I gagged twice!!! IT WAS TERRIBLE!!!
I just tried to relax, but couldnt... I had to get out of bed... I ate 2 peppermints... and thought that would help, but it didnt... I layed back in bed.. and my legs started to tremble... extremely bad... my wife asked me if I was okay... and I told her what was going on...
I tried a mouth gaurd to see if that would make me feel better, and move my jaw forward some to make me feel like my throat wasnt that tight... it didnt work... finally after all the trembling and gagging sensations... and feeling that my throat was going to close, I took 2 ativan... and finally my legs stopped trembling... and I fell asleep.
I woke up today anxious... and my wife was like "honey, are you okay?"
I started crying... and said "I'm so sick of this! Is this anxiety or is there something really wrong with me!?"
My wife replied "im sure its just anxiety honey. Take the day off from work, call the Dr. and lets get this under control."
So I called the Dr.'s office and explained what happened... and I've got an appt. at 1:45pm.
I've been pacing around... anxious... feeling kinda nauseous and feeling the tight throat still... it ***** SO BAD!
I've had anxiety before... and I thought I've had it bad in the past... but this is REAL REAL bad... I could put up with the IBS... but the tight throat!? And gagging!? I cannot live like that!
Do you guys think this is all just anxiety!?
My Dr. is going to probably tell me its all anxiety... and just work with me on new meds. I've been taking 5mg Lexapro for about a month.... havnt seen much change at all. And I hate having to take ativan to relax me at night in order to get some sleep... but what else can I do? I'd sleep fine if it wasnt for the tight throat feeling... well that's how I feel at the moment.
Think I'll be okay guys!? This just *****! I want my LIFE BACK!
Hi cnote! Long time since you've been around and I'm sorry to read you're having some problems. But you're doing the right thing.........going to your doctor. Getting to the bottom of this gagging issue. If you feel like all he will do is mess about with your meds and you seriously feel there is more to it than that, ask for a referral to either an EENT or a Gastroenterologist. Since this seems to happen primarily at night when you lie down, in my totally unmedical opinion, I think it COULD possibly have something to do with your epiglottis or perhaps you're esophagus.
I think anxiety is making this much worse for you, but you need to rule out a real organic reason for this before we chalk it ALL up to anxiety.
Perhaps until you can get in to see the doctors, try sleeping with the head of your bed elevated. That works for me and my GERD, but it might help with your issue as well. It certainly won't hurt.
Let us know what you find out, OK?
You're gonna be fine!
Peace

i have the gag issue at almost all times. it started two weeks ago. i cried and cried and he told me id be okay. he said that part of this was his fault bc he felt he wasnt doing enough. he told me anxiety has caused my physical issues. he switched me from 5mg lexapro to 10mg paxil. then hes gonna bump me up to 20mg later. hope this does the trick.
It is probley anxiety. But I think it would help you if you went to a ear-nose and throat doctor. You may have a polop in there. My husband had some and had some of your symptoms, he had them removed and he feels Great :-)
I am 18 and feel the same things as you. I wake up with a lump in my throat and then gagged a few times before I actually vomit but then all that comes out is spit. I don't have a big appetite right now and sometimes looking at food makes me nauseous. I'm glad to hear of someone going through the same thing as me. I want my life back too. I hope everything works out for you!
