Going Crazy..Pls. help!!!

by hopeless872, Jun 11, 2008 11:36AM
I was diagnosed with severe anxiety and depression years ago. It all started with my hands and feet feeling numb. Went to the doc and they said it was anxiety. Didnt believe them so I went to see a neuro and they didnt feel that they need to run any test based on the evaulation. A few years later started having sharp pains everywhere. After a few months of thinking I had another terrible diease I got on paxil and lost a lot of weight and all subsided. Well one in a half years ago I started getting twitches everywhere and my limbs felt fatigued. I totally went freaked out and immediately went thru the phonebook and found a neurologist and went and seen him. He said I was fine and he didnt feel there was a need to run any test. Soon I felt better until now. I got sick 4weeks ago and I have been dealing with a lot more stress. Even though Im a constant worrier and always thinking something is wrong with me or I have a horrible diease. Well for the last 3weeks I have been having twitches everywhere and Im going crazy again! I cant stop crying because  I think I have ALS. Im waiting for my doc to refer me to a neuro but in the meantime Im hysterical and cant calm down. All I do is sit and lay there waiting for the twitches to start and Im so tense and restless I just dont know what to do. I dont know what to do. Im going crazy and cant stop crying. I need support bad. Pls. Im so sad.

Hi Hopeless872

I am so sorry to hear that you are going through such a tough time.

The good news is that it is possible for this all to be anxiety and that there is nothing physically wrong with you, and that really is good news as that means that your body is healthy.

I think that you need to go back to your doctor and discuss things through with them, ask for them to hurry along the neuro referral and in the meantime also ask for something to calm you down. Whatever is going on you will just make it all seem ten times worse the more upset that you get. I know that it sounds easier said than done but if you can take something to help you relax a little then everything will feel slightly better and you will be able to deal with things in a better way.

I know that it is hard but you have to try and trust the doctors that you have seen and take on board what they have said to you especially the neuro cons that you saw. They deal with nothing but neuro everyday and after their evaluation nothing came up pointing to a neuro cause, please try and hold on to this and trust that they know what to look for.

Good luck with everything, I really am thinking of you
Sam

So.........a few years ago you went to a doctor who diagnosed you with severe anxiety and depression. I will just go ahead and assume they prescribed medications for these conditions and hopefully some therapy. But, apparently, didn't believe them, and I will once again assume you did not take the medications they prescribed. You then saw a neuro who, based on his/her evaluation, decided you didn't need any tests done.

Jump forward "a few years," and we find you suffering with sharp pains all over your body. You apparently saw a doctor who put you on Paxil, and "after losing a lot of weight and all subsided."  So, how long were you on the Paxil? Did you have any therapy during this period? Did you keep in contact with your doctor over your weight loss? Why did you stop taking the Paxil? Were you under the care of a doctor or therapist when you stopped?

Fast forward to one and a half years ago and you began with the twitches and limb fatigue. You let your fingers do the walking and found a neuro who told you nothing was wrong and soon you felt better.

Jumping to the here and now, 4 weeks ago you got "sick." Three weeks ago the twitches began again, you think you're going crazy, you think you have ALS and you can't stop crying. Now you're waiting for your doctor to refer you to another neuro. Why are YOU waiting? And what is your DOCTOR waiting for? The new phone books to come out?  I'm just curious what your doctor thinks is going on? What did he tell you he wanted you to see a neuro about? Did he talk to you about anxiety or depression during your visit? Did he not see how "hysterical" you were? Did you talk about all your fears concerning ALS and your constant crying and worrying and inability to calm down and your past diagnosis of anxiety and depression?

Either you are an incredible actress who presented to your doctor as a calm and level headed young woman with mild concerns of some muscle twitches, or your doctor is a total moron! (My money, personally, is on the latter)

You sound like a train wreck looking for a place to happen, and your doctor completely misses about a hundred symptoms of anxiety and someone on the verge of a mental crisis! This is unacceptable.
I think what you need to do is get yourself to your local emergency department, hand them a copy of your post and let them do the rest! You need some help immediately! I can't imagine that in the state of mind you're in, you're able to help your daughter very much. I hope she is old enough to take care of herself.

I see that you HAVE tried to get some help in the past and also recently, and that's good. You've come to the Anxiety Forum and that is VERY good, but IMHO,  the "help" you've gotten in the past and the "help" you're getting now, is really quite awful. I urge you to take your health care into your own hands now. Please go to the ER...........they will help you there and they will help you NOW, which I believe you desperately need.
For both you and your daughters sake, GO!
And please let us know how it turns out, OK? Keep posting as often as you need.
I wish you the very best.
Peace

Let's change your name to "hope" right now! Becuase whatever you're dealing with is NOT HOPELESS!
I think your friend and I are right. You should go to the ER now, have your friend drive you and I'm assuming this friend will also take care of your daughter should you need to stay for some tests or such?
It's good that you've got an appt. for Friday, but in the meanwhile, you are still going through hell. Why didn't your doctor prescribe something for you right now to help you calm down? If you decide not to go to the ER, then call your doctor back and ask for something to help you get through the next couple of days. A few days of an anti-anxiety med might help you more than you know! If you don't know much about benzo's, which are the family that anti-anxiety meds are in, you might want to ask your doctor about something like Xanax or Ativan. Both are fast acting and are meant for short term use ONLY.
Again, toots, please keep us posted. We're all here for you!
Peace

Thank you all so much for being so supportive. Well I went to the neuro today and based on the physical examination(just like the other 2 in the past) he said there is nothing indicating any neurological disorder and told me I have severe anxiety and I need to be on medication and see a psychologist. He explained to me that anxiety manifest itself in all kinds of physical symptoms and that twitches are common. I guess my twitches werent as  bad as I thought. The twitches that he asked if I had, are described more like muscle spasms. Like having a twitch that causes that particular region to jerk. He also asked do others see me twitch. Which hasnt happened. I asked about the tiredness in my thighs and he said that anxiety can definately manifest itself in the muscles. When he tapped my elbows and knees he said that they were overexaggerated due to high anxiety. Meaning, as soon as he tap me I jolted. I tend to startle easy. He wants me to see him in three months but not to worry and to get ALS and MS out of my mine and to get well mentally. I hope others who are twitching can find some relief in this post. Thank you guys again for the concern. Im going to see a psychologist Monday morning.
