HIV ANXIETY

Hello,

I am 25 Female, last year around March 5, 2013, I had one time protected Vaginal Intercouse with a man with (Unknown Status). I am not sure if the condom broke or slipped(this made me worry more). After 4 weeks I feel sick, i think only fever and diarhhea for a day or two. But people around me is telling that i dont have fever but for me I feel hot. After 2 months i developed one mouth ulcer(just a small one) and went away after few days. And also after 4 months i had diarrhea/loose stool again that lasts for one week. I am a bit worried of contracting HIV from this situation as i feel like I'm experiencing ARS Symptoms.Ang also im experiencing on and off headaches until end of APRIL. My question is what is the probability that I got infected from this incident? I asked the guy and he told me that he is not sick of anything but still i am worried. Please do give me an answer and help before i get tested.. Thank you so much. MY ANXIETY IS KILLING ME.

Seek professional help as you obviously cannot let this go.

This is a forum to discuss ways to manage anxiety, not HIV.

So you are telling no need to further test? It was 11 months had past after I took the test. I should be reliable, accurate and conclusive. I am afraid to get more test though.

You can allways get a pcr test if you need to ease your fears more.Of course there is no need for that if it will make you feel better maby its an option. After so long your test would have defenately be positive, the fact that its negative means you are 100% negative.

Just can't relax. I took the test in LAB in the Philippines (my country) First when I got the result i feel relieved but after few months here I go again, recalling why I get symptoms like the one in HIV. and also I got Vaginal yeast infection that makes my mind go crazy bad so bad. I am getting married with my current bf next year and I want everything to be fine. He knows that this happened in my past and he got tested and everything is fine. He assure me if I got HIV, he surely be positive now which he didn't.

I did my test in Private Lab Clinic. They are lab for all types of tests ie hepa etc. only a small clinic but not focus on STD. They are operating since I was born I think but this is the First Time I went for HIV test. I got my result after 2 hours. Not sure what kind of HIV test.

You didn't experience hiv symptoms because your test was negative. Why wouldn't you trust the resaults of the lab clinic? How soon you will have your resaults it depends on how busy they are and their waiting policy. In my country when you get tested by the public health system in hospital you have to wait 15-20 days. When you test at a private lab you take the resault at 24 hours tops. The private lab is one of the best in the country and they have all the iso and the certification needed. You have no reason not to believe your test...

Do you think my 11 months result is accurate and conclusive? Even to a people with immune disorder? Now I am thinking i have that disorder because i have on and off cold and cough. And also im thinking if they did it right in the laboratory clinic i went through. I didnt check which test they did.

Those are ALL what if questions.  That's anxiety.

IF you had had a risk (which you didn't), your test would be conclusive.

Now i have a small white spot on my throat. What is this? Got scared again.

Did you or the male ask for the condom? If he insisted, then that is a reason to believe he was as low risk as it gets. Even lower than all the odds nursegirl just listed.

Hello and welcome!

HIV anxiety is ALL too common, it's easy to see that by browsing through our HIV forums.  I'd say that probably less than 10% of people posting actually HAD a risk for HIV, and most real risks we see are low to begin with.  Actual HIGH risk situations probably make up less than 1% of the posts we see.

The honest to God's truth regarding HIV is that while it's POSSIBLE to become infected through UNPROTECTED heterosexual intercourse, it's very VERY rare.  The people who are getting infected are men who have sex with other men, and IV drug abusers...and even THOSE people who ended up infected typically had repeated high risk exposures (not one or two).

From what you've describe here, you had no risk.  Condoms are effective in preventing HIV infection as long as they don't break (which trust me, you wouldn't miss, they break catastrophically when they do) or if the condom comes completely off the head of the male penis.  Condom slippage, losing a condom on withdrawal of the penis do NOT create a risk.  It's really quite simple, as long as the HEAD of the male partner's penis remains covered throughout the duration of the intercourse, both partners were protected.  It really IS that straight forward, the problem is, MOST people (even people who aren't anxious about HIV) have very overinflated views about HIV and what causes a person to REALLY have a risk.

In all the years I've been here, participating in the HIV Prevention forum, not ONE person has reported testing + (minus the few hoaxes we've seen, which were dismissed as such easily), among THOUSANDS of posts (probably tens of thousands or more), even high risk situations.  Think of ALL of those posts, and the fact that even the small % of people who posted with VERY high risk situations did not become infected.  THAT has to put into perspective for you how hard HIV is to actually transmit.

That being said, it's still very important to insist on condoms for any insertive sex with partners whose status you're not sure of.  If you use condoms for vaginal or anal sex, and never share IV drugs, you'll never have to worry about HIV.  TRULY.

Now, to get your MIND to believe that?  That's where professional help is a plus.  You need to learn how to reprogram the way you think about HIV basically.  If it was as easy as people moving on with our reassurance, the HIV forum wouldn't be the crazy busy place it is!!

Hope you're able to move past this...you don't have an HIV concern.

The test is quick, and you are not living happily now so if I were you I would just get it done today. It seems from your short post that you are living as if you had a positive test result anyway which is very unfortunate and painful.

You think there is a risk from the condom not being properly in place, - even though it is unlikely you are infected, only a test will give you the answer.
Since he claims to be not sick you should focus on that thought while waiting for your test result.
