Heart rate due to anxiety

When I go to my doctor's appt I have a panic attack thinking that something is wrong with me my heart rate is 158bpm
and I am really afraid to go back to the doctors they have me on atentol 25mg and lorazepam 0.5 or 1mg to lower my heart rate. Could there be something really wrong with my heart, are could anxiety really make my heart  beat 158 per min?

Anxiety and panic can make your heart rate go faster than that, so if your doctor is not concerned then I wouldn't be either in my opinion.  I have anxiety about going to the doctor's as well.  My blood pressure will actually go into the 150s, so they actually take it at the end and it is almost 40 points lower, so it can and does play a roll in how our bodies react!

I checked my blood pressure the last time I was having a panic attack (a "mild" one at that), and it was 152/100. My pulse was 110. I just took my blood pressure now, and it is 118/77. Pulse is 73. So, yes... anxiety / panic can make your heart rate and blood pressure skyrocket.

anxiety sooo can make your hr elevate! I have white coat syndrome and every time I go to the doctor or hospital my hr shoot up to  the 140-150's in seconds! always have.. when I was in labor is was 180! ... I was on metroprol for 5 years which really helped with not allowing my hr to elevate so high.. it would start and then come right back down to around 85-100. Good luck I sure no how you fee!
