Heartbeat problems from ssri/snri

I have read recently about studies that say there is an increased chance of sudden death from being on an antidepressant including the ssris or snris.  I have been on one or the other for about 15 years now and have had a few episodes where my heart rate would increase dramatically especially after excercise.  I have had it checked out and was told not anything to worry about.  My understanding is that the risk of sudden death from disturbed electrical impulses to the heart is with the higher doses.  I am currently on 75 miligrams of effexor and have always taken a lower dose of whatever it was that I was on.  Every once in a while I'll feel my heart beat speed up for a second or two, not very often.  The tachycardia episodes after excercise are rare but scary.  Am I at risk for a serious problem.  I excercise alot and eat pretty well.  Thanks.

If your doctor says it is nothing to worry about, then in my opinion, you need to trust him/her.  Be careful what you read/research on the internet because it can really cause you to go down a road that you don't need to go down and cause unecessary worries.

You said you have been on medication for 15 years and had a few episodes; my heart has raced many more times than that in the last 15 years; sometimes it just happens and there are a million other reasons for it happening with the VAST majority of it nothing to worry about.  Just stay in consultation with your doctor and continue to be pro-active in your treatement....keep us posted!
