Heartbeat sensation

Heartbeat sensation

Sorry... one more question.  I can constantly feel my heart beating in my chest and sometimes neck.  (checked out by a cardio, heart is okay), and likely due to my anxiety. It does not feel irregular... I can just constantly feel it beating.

Is there ANYTHING that will help this?  Lorazapam does not help.  Nor did the Lexapro help when I took that.  Relaxation breathing doesn't help either.  I've had it for at least 2 years.   Help!!!!

I would have suggested your lorazapam also, maybe an increased dosage?  (of course with the ok of your doctor).  do you have this when you are anxious or all the time?  is it going fast?  i know that when I am really stressed I feel it like you describe, but not all the time...maybe someone else can help..I am sure there is someone here who experiences it too!

Hi, thanks for posting!   I would say that I "notice" it most of the time.  It is worse when I think about it or when in a quiet room with no distraction or when I go to lay down at night in a quiet room.  If I am busy or distracted or somewhere with noise, I do not notice it.    And I dont' think I feel especially anxious when it's happening.  I wonder if my body is pumping out adreneline or cortisol or something?

I have that same sensation most of the time, I drives me nuts and makes me scared. I also feel it in my arms and hands.  I take 1mg of lorazepam and also the doctor put me on metoprolol for my fast and hard heartbeats. I have extreme anxiety over my heart, I think I'm having a heart attack almost everyday, but I know it is just anxiety. I hope you get better and know your not alone.

I feel my heart beating in my chest, neck, hands, feet, and sometimes even my lips.  Everything pulses with each heartbeat and I can feel the thumping in my chest.  It is very upseting, especially for those of us with health anxiety.  I remember feeling my heartbeat in my chest as a teenager before I developed GAD, but it became more pronounced after I got anxiety.  All my docs have said it is due to anxiety.  Hope this helps.

Thank so much !!    I actually am on Inderal and Lorazapam.  I still have this heartbeat sensation!    I am currently weaning off Inderal and there is no change so perhaps I can do without it.  That leaves the Lorazapam and perhaps I can ask to switch to Klonopin.

I have been doing that combo drug therapy for 1 1/2 years now, along with seeing a therapist and I just don't think the drugs are a life long solution, nor have they stopped the problem in the first place.  (reduced a bit, but not stopped).

I'd like to get rid of this sensation without meds. Is there any non-drug solution to this?  The funny thing is, I don't even "feel" anxious.  It seems as though my body is doing this on it's own.

Thanks!!

Same with me, i do not feel as if i bring things on myself, it seems as if my mind is doing it.
I get these pulsating sensations every day everywhere in my body, and constantly think somethings wrong with my heart, even though i have had a few ECG's, and a 24 hour ECG and everythings fine.
Im getting really depressed aswell, especially at work, because i am a  labourer, and have to do a heavy duty, tiring job, where i am always on my feet, and of course this speeds my heart rate and gets me worrying.
Could someone with the same symptoms please reply i really need a talk!
thankyou

Hi Andy,

I did the same tests (echo and 1 month monitor!) and what we can take comfort in is that we did the tests and have to believe what our doctors said that nothing is wrong with the heart.  It is known that anixiety can produce these symptoms, so I do believe this is the cause.

It completely stinks because I dont' know how to stop it (other than meds) and the more you focus on it, the more you worry and the more it beats -- a never ending cycle.  I am going to ask my doctor about Klonipin (klonopin) as Ryan suggested.  I am also going to take on meditation/relaxation CDs on my ipod.   A kind soul on the boards also suggested a book by Dr. Weaks about calming your nerves.  I have ordered it, but not received it yet.   I am determined to kick this dumb thing!!!

Thankyou for your reply Kelly!
The last few days i have been feeling better, after finding this forum and talking to you guys!
I may try relaxation techniques too, to calm me down.
I am going to spain in 10 weeks and really want to make a big step towards feeling a lot better for then, as i think some time relaxing in the sun will do me the world of good!
Let me know how things go with trying to relax kelly!
Goodbye for now, ill be on here a few times in the forecoming weeks if anyone wants to talk.
