Help Help Help

My son woke up at 5am vomitting, he only vomitted once and then a tiny bit at 7am. I have been up since then and I feel weird, I am freaking out that he has the stomach flu and I am going to get it. I feel very anxious all morning, it won't subside. How do I know if its anxiety of the flu? I am very weak and dizzy but I also get this way during anxiety. Please someone help me through this!

I prefer to think of myself as more of a "butt kicker" than a "slapper," but whatever works! That your daughter is ALSO barfing is almost proof positive in my book that what we have here is your classic flu bug. Keeping them both hydrated and rested is about all you can do. I would suggest a childrens aspirin if they have a bit of a headache or aches and pains, very common with flu, but CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR FIRST before giving ANYTHING to children. Especially aspirin. It can sometimes lead to a serious disorder.

And as for you, and me and any of us with anxiety issues, being sick usually will increase our anxiety load. It's just an added bonus of our disorder. But even if you DO come down with the flu, which you have a VERY good chance of, just try to remember it IS only flu, which really s+u+c+k+s but is fairly short lived and the same care goes for you as the kids...........lots of fluids and rest and for body aches and pains, whatever OTC pain med you use should help with that.
You can look at it another way..........at least you're all getting it over with now. You COULD have waited until Thanksgiving and tossed your cookies on the turkey!
Personally I think that would make the better family story, but I DO have an odd sense of humor.
Hope you all feel well soon!
Peace

Thanks for the slap - it helps you know!
My son is 7, in 2nd grade. My oldest daughter is at her dad's and has been vomitting all night too so probably the flu. My sons feels better right now, has kept food down and fluids, I think he is done vomitting. I HATE being sick because my anxiety goes up soo much and then I can't tell if its the anxiety of just being sick and I get stuck in this vicous cycle. I am not sick to my stomach, just feel off and all of those things that could be either one, ya know? I called the doc, they said they can't test for the flu so I guess I just can ride it out

Not to be the wicked witch here jess, but for Pete's sake, calm down!  Your son could just as easily eaten something that didn't agree with him, he barfed and that may be the end of it. Why on earth would you be freaking out that he may have the flu..........or that you might get it? It IS that time of year, ya know. How old is he? Is he in school or daycare? Both breeding grounds for every bug known to man and they follow kids home like lost puppies!
You probably feel weird from lack of sleep and the natural worry of any mother with a sick child. And if it IS the flu, you MAY very well get it. Not pleasant, but not the end of the world either. I raised two boys and every bug they brought home they happily shared with me. More often than not, THEY would be just fine and I'D be the one sick as a dog! If you are this freaked out, then please take your son to his pediatrician. There is nothing they can do for flu as it's a virus, not a bacterial infection. They will have you make sure your son stays hydrated (load up on popcicles!) and gets lots of rest. Kids usually get over this bug much faster than adults. It sounds like YOUR the one more in need of a doctor and the doctor can tell you if it's the flu or anxiety. (Feeling weak and dizzy can be symptoms of either flu or anxiety) My advice? Stay there and freak out or see the doc..........
Now calm down and make the appointment.
Peace
