Help driving anxiety or pure panic attack?

Can someone please tell me why I experience a feeling of blankness while I'm driving sometimes when I get in the car, or am driving approaching a stop light I just freeze and forget how to drive the car..or that I'm going to hit the gas and drive the car into my garage door..It's horrible to feel like this.. I'm on xanax .50 twice daily but it's not helping completley.

If you only have this anxiety during driving I think the anxiety is related to the driving.btw its not a good idea to drive with xanax in your system.

Even though this doesn't sound like a panic attack, it's definitely a weird type of anxiety if it is at all.  There could be another problem and I would have my doc give me a clean bill of health before deciding what the problem is.  As far as the blanking out goes, the Xanax could actually exacerbate that problem.  I would not get behind the wheel until I got this straightened out.  Good Luck.  Hopefully someone on here has experienced something similar.

Sounds a potentially fatal problem. Have you had professional help for this problem? If not............you must asp. Imagine the catastrophic effects if you 'blank out' at a critical point when driving. Suggest you stop driving ;until you have consulted your Doc/Psych. If you must travel to work etc find an alternative to driving. Let's know how it goes please. George
