Help

by rck123, Feb 05, 2009 06:01PM
I need some help.  I was on Paxil for about 6 months for aniety and it made me gain alot of weight (30lbs).  I stopped taking it cold turkey and have been fine for about 4 months.  No problems at all.  Now i am feeling slight chest discomfort and at times abnormal heart beats.  I really dont feel stressed about anything at all and i dont want to go back to taking paxil.  I have had all of the tests done (EKG, stress test, etc) to rule out any heart problems.  I still feel like they might have missed something, but i dont feel really stressed about it.  Is there any other alternatives to Paxil that wont make me gain weight?

I am not sure on what pills will cause weight gain and ones that won't but I am on citalopram and I have not gained any weight and since I started having anxiety problems I lost twenty pounds but I think thats because I just didn't feel like eating.

I guess what I'm wondering is why you want to go back on ANYTHING?
You stated, twice, that you don't feel stressed, and you said nothing about feeling anxiety, panic or depression.
Since your tests all came back normal, your heart is fine. You say you have some concern that they missed something, which is highly unlikely. What did the doctors say about your "slight chest discomfort" and abnormal heart rate? If it was anything to be concerned about, they would have ordered more tests or sent you to a cardiologist, but they didn't.
You have some MILD anxiety about your chest discomfort and HR and the possibility that something was missed on your tests. Why not just see your doctor again and have him/her go over their findings with you. I think you may just need a little more reassurance that everything is OK. If you're still concerned about your symptoms, you could discuss it with them at that time. If you can possibly avoid going back on medication, that would be great!
But if you can't, there are other meds out there that will not cause weight gain.
Peace
