Effexor is one of the most stimulating antidepressants and isn't usually used if anxiety is a major problem unless it's believed to be caused by depression. The reason is it targets not only serotonin, as ssris do, but also norepinephrine, or adrenaline, as snris do. Are you seeing a regular doc or a psychiatrist? Regular docs don't do this as much and therefore rely more on what they read than what they've seen, and the reading is almost all by drug companies. If it's been this long you might go to an ER and they'll probably give you a benzo to calm your system down. You'll be okay, but I'd be leery of using this drug for you.
