If you're not actually scheduled for jury duty, TRY not to worry about it. For most people, it happens so seldomly anyway. If you got a notice, you would just have to provide a doctor's note that you would be unable to participate.
I was on a jury back about 20 years ago and I loved it! Now though, since I have been diagnosed with anxiety and depression, I dread the thought. As I stated, I avoid meetings and any other "can't get out of" situations.
Here is my take on it because I got off before and I did serve on a jury once. When I was in crisis mode, I got a jury summons. I did write in that I had a "mental infirmity." Back then I don't think I even needed a doctor's note but it was so long ago that I really can't remember. The second time, I was actually seated on a jury for a civil case. I was not in crisis mode when I sat on the jury and therefore I felt I could do a good job. If you feel that you are just struggling to take care of yourself let alone sit on a jury, then get a doctor's note and get out of it. The last thing you need is more stress in your life. BTW...I'll be at jury duty on August 13...just can't wait...NOT!
Exemption from a jury will be a matter of routine and without penalty once you provide a psychiatrist's note. But don't just not show up when summoned. Think this over. Many jury trials are quite interesting. They are in public in the United States and you might want to visit a court and sit in on one for a while to see what they are like.
Do you actually have to go to jury duty, or are you worrying in case it ever happens? Medical conditions can get you out of jury duty, so you could have your doctor sign off on it. My mom is diabetic and that alone is enough to get her out of it.
