I have never felt in control when away from home , I used to have a drink to calm myself but not now I am on the wagon. I have never wanted to fly abroad, I have a million hobbies and I pick the places I want to go . Its a comfort zone we build our self to feel safe . I don't have Agrophobia but I was close in my younger days I can go anywhere now within my feel good range I would saY 70miles to a sea side place I went has I kid , I feel great when there . but I once drove the wife to Newquay in Cornwall 400 to a hotel for a week . I was ill all week with anxiety and near drank myself sober keeping my cool. how I drove home I don't remember, Its all anxiety RELATED
Don't let your mind limit yourself to what you want to do. I've experienced the same fear that you are right now. I found that self-talk helped me go out and do what I wanted to do. Im 21 as well and i know it's so hard to fight the symptoms you're experiencing as you try to go out . One thing you have to remember is you're 21 and our youth won't last forever. You need to enjoy every moment of being 21 and young. Don't let that fact escape your mind when it's telling you to stay inside.
Okay. First, before even leaving home, have an 'out' in place, where you can leave and come home at anytime. Take walks, just to the edge of your comfort-zone, then come home. Do that until you can go a bit further, and so on. Better if you have a friend with you. Also, reason it out in your mind: you won't be walking at night, or when it's storming. If there is a criminal element in your area, take your dog (if you have one big enough to look dangerous), or carry pepper-spray. Know that the chances of your becoming a victim in broad daylight are extremely low. AND seek couseling. I hope the best for you - Blu
Hi,
Why don't you try remembering that you've been far from home many times in your life and nothing happens. Everybody strays far from home everyday. I imagine this to be quite a challenge. Just remember, when you start to have these thoughts as you get farther from your house, they are simply in your head. Nothing is happening, and you can tell yourself to relax. Stop, take a breath, look around and see what's around you. Enjoy this moment and take the next step. I think you can get past this! Good luck
