I NEED to get of SSRI's!!

I really hate them. I told my doc that my Lexapro (switched FROM celexa), makes me tired, not have any sexual desire, and i think it makes me fat.


i have ocd, mild anixety, and invasive thoughts. he told me to drop to 10mg and start taking topamax.

i really just want to get off ssri's and on to something that helps with the invasive thoughts and ocd (neither which are HORRIBLE, but bad enough).

i asked about wellbutrin, he said it wouldnt help me. so what do i doooo?

well I can say I got off lexipro because I was taking 10mg of lexipro and 300 mg of welbutrin a day, then i switched to Zoloft (the generic of zoloft)  It does not make you fat, it actually controls your eating, also it helps me with ocd, anxiety, ect.  just incase of anxiety I take zanax or how ever you spell it...    anyways it helps me with everything, but the sexual desire, it doesnt help w/ that... it actually kills it so I dont have sexual desire, but im gonna go to the doctor for that and see if there is anything else i can take for that...so ill let ya know

everything ive heard says that lexapro can and does make you fat...?

Yes if you search on lexapro, it will tell you that it could cause weight gain...  Since I have taken Zoloft, I havent had any weight gain...actually I have been the same weight for a while...   I havent taken any other brands besides lexapro, welbutrin, zoloft, xanax, ect.  Those are the only ones, I can tell you the symptoms I have had.  Xanax though, if you take that, it causes you to be really sleepy...  I only take it when I have pannick attacks or anxiety attacks really bad...  but if you have to get up early in the morning, dont take xanax.  Lexapro...it causes weight gain, and I had hard problems trying to wake up or staying awake...   Welbutrin, I dont think I had any symptoms with that...  actually when I took it, I didnt loose any sexual desire.... this is the only one though.. but I needed something stronger for myself...    Zoloft, it really works good, it causes decrease in appetite, but not badly, also you loose sexual desire with...

Which of the SSRIs have you tried? Lexapro and Celexa? Have you tried the others? It is different for everyone and just because a side effect is listed, it doesn't mean you will get it. I have to admit that Zoloft was the best for anxiety and intrusive thoughts, but it totally nixed the sexual abilities.

ive been on celexa and now lexapro. i just dont like them so far so i dont think ill like others.


i heard lexapro has the least effects and it STILL has sexual effects and weight gain

I have researched on all of them, but it everyone is different, like PenelopeAnn says, but lexapro I had a little sexual side affects, but after I took it for a while; it wasnt that bad.  I went back to normal in that area, but it wasnt helping my anxiety..  welbutrin I didnt have any sexual side affects... I was taking 300mg a day on that...  Maybe ask your doctor to have you try something else, or give you something for your sexual side affects.... Im going to the doc soon and see if he can give me something...  if I find out any new info, Ill let you know..
