I am trying to find out what this is?

I have had these excited feelings in my chest for the last week. I went to my doctor and he gave me xanax but they dont seem to work that well. I use to worry all the time about a heart attack because I had high cholesteral but I fixed that and lost 25 pounds now. I think all the worring is still with me and when I get an excited feeling in my chest I start worring again. This has effected my normal life now because Im worring all the time about this. It really stinks. They come on whenever. More when I go out that when im home. It almost feels liie my heart stops and then comes back in with a pound! If anybody has any advice please help.

I believe the feelings you are talking about are called "heart palpitations" and they are very common. Anxiety, stress and caffeine are just three examples of what can bring them on. And sometimes they happen for no reason at all...........sometimes our hearts just need to sort of "reset" themselves. But for those of us with anxiety issues, we then focus on our hearts which causes anxiety which causes even more palps and you get the picture.
If your doctor was not overly concerned with them, even there rather abrupt appearance, then learning about them is your best bet in dealing with them. 99.9% of the time they are totally benign and will not cause a heart attack.
I have had heart palps virtually all my life, and while I am use to them and understand them, they still scare the &*&^% out of me. Ya just gotta love anxiety, right?
I would strongly urge you to visit the Heart Rhythm Forum. Now THERE is a group of folks who understands heart palps! They have helped me so  much over the years, I can't say enough about them!
If you are getting to the point where you are afraid to go out, then it's time to revisit your doctor for a more thorough cardio work up to ease your mind.
I don't normally recommend anyone look up anything on the Net, and I first suggest you go to the Heart Rhythm Forum, but to learn about heart palps, visit the Mayo Clinic or Cleavland Clinic websites for ACCURATE information.
Let us know how you're doing, OK?
Welcome to the club!
