I can't figure out whats going on with me

by melann27, Jun 04, 2008 10:17AM
Two weeks ago I was feeling fairly normal.  I take some medication.  Ambien CR at night to help me sleep and then I also take Klonapin when needed and Sinequan daily.  I have a pretty sensitive body and so I try to be careful of what I take.  I am also very skinny, I'm 5'8 but only weigh 108 pounds.  This is pretty natural for me (not an eating disorder).  Two weeks ago I started taking a birth control, and I have not taken any sort of contraceptive for almost 4 months.  Since then I have had so much anxiety and really have felt pretty bad all around.  I am not sure if it is from the hormones or really what is going on.  I have had a very small appetite although I'm forcing myself to eat because I lose weight really easily.  It's weird in the morning I will have my breakfast and then immediately after I get very nauseated. I am 100% positive that I am not pregnant.  Does anyone have any clue what could be going on?  Are my hormones screwed up or am I just having a bad anxiety attack.  I have gone through something very similar a while ago that lasted for a very long time and I hope this is not a relapse, and that was anxiety.  I am kind of getting frightened.  My doctor told me to take some more klonapin to get over this.  Any advise would be so greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Grapes grow in bunches, they say, and here are 2 questions about BC medication and anxiety within a day or so of each other. Well, a "couple" is not a bunch, but you get the idea. I refer you to the post of mmcaxo64, "Anxiety and Birth Control" down near the bottom of the page where your question has been asked and answered in part by "nursegirl" who knows about such things.

I am a teeny-tiny bit uncomfortable with the Doc's advice to increase the K. That may, in fact be the just right thing to do but if it was offered without much explanation, you may want to press for more detail -to get the answers you seek here. And I would not rule out some therapy as well which very possibly may result in saying good bye to anxiety -so you need no meds at all.

Anyway, people far better informed than me will no doubt drop by soon -so don't don't leave for too long.

Could be the birth control for sure messing w/ your hormones and other meds. Maybe a lower dose BC pill? Wacky hormones = wackier anxiety lol.......
I'm sure "nursegirl" will know more about that too.

It sure sounds like you may not be tolerating the BC pill well...especially since you've recently added it to your pill box.  The nausea could also be related to that as well.

NOT to say that it isn't anxiety...but I think if I were you...I'd rule out the oral contraceptive first.  Talk with your doc...see if maybe he can adjust the dose...or try something new all together perhaps?

Increasing the Klonopin....eh...I'm not 100% sure about that either.  Now, a lot of side effects from bc pills will start to subside....so maybe that was the doc's thinking...to up the Klonopin briefly while you adjust?  2 weeks later, I would expect to see SOME improvement.

Now that I have thoroughly confused you....lol.....

Yes, get in to see the doc and discuss all of the above.  If your anxiety and these other symptoms became markedly worse right after starting the pill...that would see the most obvious answer.  If it wasn't that clear...then it may be more of a guessing game.

Sounds like with your weight issues that it isn't surprising that you would maybe not be tolerating the bc pill very well.  That would personally be my guess.  Just my opinion of course.

Let us know....okay?

Thank you for your advise.  I actually stopped taking the birth control yesterday, and I'm telling you I feel a 100x better then I did yesterday today. After eating my breakfast I did not get that normal nauseating feeling that I have been getting for the last couple of weeks.  I think it is a safe assumption that the bc was causing me to have anxiety and making me not feel good, which led me to believe that I was having another panic attack.  I could not tolerate all the hormones.   I hope now my body will get back on track and balance out.

Thank you to everyone for advise and help.

There ya go!  Process of elimination!  Great for you!  Some people really have a rough time tolerating BC pills.

Depending on what you were taking them for....you can possibly just cut them out all together.  If you were taking them as a BC method....well, you obviously know there are ALL sorts of options for you.

If for something like endometriosis...you may want to talk with your doc and see if there is a better alternative.

Good luck...I'm so glad you're feeling better! Yay!
