you are not the only one. i am having the same problem with my husband. we are supposed to fly from idaho to colorado on april 11 and his fear of flying is getting worse. if you find something that helps you please let me know.
If being on a plane worries you that bad then just greyhound it! by the way Airplanes are statistically more safe then automobiles! they are safer then cars! but think about it, if you really detest being on a plane then just look on the bright side of being on the greyhound., you feel safer, and you can bring a few good books and bring some music, like an ipod. some people have personal dvd players or on ipods they download movies, you can do all this on a plane too! but your choice, alot of people enjoy planes! they look relaxed and are relaxed as you should be,the same is said for greyhounds. either way at least you will get there and get it done and out of the way. good luck.
Fear of flying is a very common issue, so it is certainly not you at all, heaps of people are afraid to fly, my advise would be to simple ease into, I'm from Australia so I'm nof familiar with what domestic flights are available in the US, but I know that I could take I flight from my home city Brisbane up to a spot in the North like Rockhampton, Mackay or Bundaberg. The flight would only take 45mins to an hour so maybe you could do something like that in Texas before you take a longer flight, just to get yourself used to it, maybe take a friend or inform the flight crew of your fear so you are able to count on some support during the flight. I don't have a fear of flying but I sure do hate long flights, I'm way too tall for the seats. When you take your flight to Africa consider a few over night stop overs so you get a break from flying. That's my advice hope it is helpful
