I'm scared

I think I'm having alcohol withdrawals. I haven't been drinking heavily persay but I've had up to five drinks a night for a few weeks now. During the day I'm having bad anxiety and panic attacks and just don't feel very well. Today I thought I might pass out while driving. I also don't have an appetite and I have diarrhea when I first get up. Earlier this year I was a really heavy drinker and I think I was having withdrawals then too but it wasn't serious like seizures or DT's.

i wouldnt say a bit of alcohol is too bad everyone is entitled to a glass of wine or beer every now and then, but do any of you find that when you know you are going to have a drink you start to panic about how it will make you feel the next day,i am going to a party tomorrow and i know what people will say, well just dont drink or dont drink to much but when i gets into the party mode i just relaxes and boom, too much too drink, and when i wakes up the next day its hit or miss,it how ever anxious i am feeling at the time that makes me feel worse.

I have used the wine as my crutch to sleep for the past couple of months, but now I can tell that it is making my anxiety worse during the day. I had a nurse tell me when I was hospitalized that benzo's are like alcohol in a pill. I know how dangerous withdrawl from benzo's can be and can't believe I let myself start drinking, but I figured it was safer than taking the pills they give that make me worse. I wish you the best!

Yeah I think the anxiety is actually caused from withdrawal. I've read withdrawal can start in as little as 6 hours from the last drink.

Alcohol can make anxiety worse! I have been drinking some wine before I go to bed everynight for about 2 months and now I feel worse the next day. I hope you feel better soon!

I don't feel as dependent on alcohol as I used to be but I suppose even a little is too much. I've had my doc prescribe me Ativan to help with the panic.

you dont give something up you are dependant on just like that you needs help, giving up any kind of drug alcohol can cause panic attacks and anxiety, you need a doctor to help you through this,my friend is alcohol dependant the doctor told him not to just quit but to go on beta blockers to controlhis habit, please seek helpfrom your doctor,i can explain why he put my mate on beta blockers you cant drink 4 two hours before the tab and 2 hours after,so it cuts  out alot of his drinking time,he has to take them 3 times a day, which he dont and he has been told his livers are done dead so he aint going to live much longer, his choice, you make yours.

Yeah I see your point. One strange thing though is the anxiety comes and goes. If it were withdrawal I would think it would stay constant.

You have been drinking heavily.    The best thing you could do is to totally quit using alcohol forever.     You are having anxiety and panic attacks because alcohol (which is a depressant similar to benzos),  once its effects wear off,   your nervous system becomes hyper-active.    Stop now.    If thats not working then go to an AA meeting and listen to the stories of those whose lives have been ruined by using alcohol.
