Increased Effexor dosage but more anxiety?

I started taking Effexor for severe panic attacks and near constant anxiety in the form of feeling "out of reality". With 37.5mg it seemed to work pretty well but I still had anxiety every other day and still didn't feel completely normal.

My Psychologist suggested increasing dosage to 75mg and I have for the past four days, the thing is it seems that I have more anxiety, still no or very mild panic but definitely anxiety. I also feel tired and wake up kind of depressed and have less will to do things. I noticed the effects of 37.5 in my system within a day and within the first five was feeling much better, when can I expect this increase to work?

I am kind of noticing that the effects I am going through now happened when I first started Effexor and then went away, could it just need time to adjust or something?

Yea I was just saying my bad experience with one type of drug :P, it's odd how they all work differently for each person to bad that 1 med would work for all people no matter what :P thats just wishful thinking lolol

The original poster is on Effexor, not Wellbutrin.
I found that Effexor really did help my anxiety. It also made me tired though at times. Funny how we all respond to these meds differently.

I JUST came off wellburtrin and I had only used it for a week and 3 days... today would have been the 4th day I used it but yesterday I had a BAD side effect from it, I had so much rage built up and I had NO IDEA were it came from, I was mad to the point I just could have screamed or snapped at anything said to me it was so awful, I went to the doc and he told me to discontinue the use of it and put me on celexa, today I didn't feel angry or anything but I felt like I was in HELL again, someone did state in a post I put up before that it was a really stimulating drug (was it ever) and just to watch myself with it, when I noticed that rage I went RIGHT to the doctors and was immediately taken off wellburtrin, and that was only after 10 days
I started with the 150mg of wellbutrin and then after a week was up to 300mg.... but that was my experience with it.

By the way, don't take this comment to say snris such as Effexor are never useful for anxiety, particularly if the anxiety is a byproduct of depression as it often is.  It's just to say that it is very stimulating and therefore isn't a first choice for one suffering a lot of anxiety.  I also want to say that medication seldom makes anything disappear altogether -- the best I ever got was not getting new phobias; the meds never did anything for me with my old ones.  Meds don't cure, they just treat symptoms and were created originally to allow someone to calm down enough to get success from therapy.

Effexor is not a treatment for primary anxiety, it's a stimulating anti-depressant.  If anxiety is your only problem a psychiatrist would generally put on an ssri or trycyclic, not an ssri or wellbutrin because of this stimulating factor.  Taking more stimulates more.  This could be the problem.

The dose increase could be causing more anxiety. This is not that uncommon. I would give it a little more time. If the anxiety is too much or is not going away give your Dr a call.
