Inderal & long term (high dose) side effects ?

by calc6, Jun 30, 2009 02:03PM
Hi,

I was prescribed Inderal LA by my GP a few years ago for public speaking and have been using in on/off for nearly 5 years now. They have always been 80mg tablets, so it surprises me that some people on here say 80mg is a very high dose. I only take inderal LA about once or twice a month, although it is often 2x80mg... I have returned to the GP for several repeat prescriptions and have also bought inderal over the internet.

Does anyone know what are the possible long term side effects of this situation ?

The last few doses have given me a very light, intermittent headache for a week or two after, although I suspect this is a dodgy batch from the internet or even some that may have gone out of date...

The next time I need them, I will be using the fresh, GP prescribed, tablets, but will be very worried if they cause the same problem !

Thankyou

Hello.
You say that you're using them on and off and only once or twice a month. Serious side-effects shouldn't be expected then.
Propranolol has a half-life of 11 hours so it quickly leaves the body, if not readministered.
When used for high bloodpressure the dosage can be 320 mg daily. The dosage you're on might be a little high but people do respond differently to medication, some only need 10 or 20 mg propranolol to feel the effects.
I have myself tried 40 mg b.i.d and didn't notice any effect from it what so ever. I could just as well have eaten candy. My weight is 56 kg, but that doesn't seem to be a factor. I guess I would have to at least double the dos to get an effect. What can I say?

It would probably be wise to talk to your GP about the new headache. If you're taking other kind of medication in addition this could affect Inderal.
Yeah, and internet drugstore...never know what you get.

Hope it turns out to be nothing:)

Regards,
Nora
