Irrational hiv anxiety

by James300, Jul 13, 2009 11:38AM
I have been told that I suffer from irrational hiv anxiety.  Does anyone care to comment on this? The long and short of it is that someone probably pranked called me that I tested + for hiv, although my sexual history does not suggest I was risk for getting it.

I read the replies from others in hiv forum, really do not know what, we can ad here? they said you need to let it go! which is easier said then done. If you can't let this go, their other advise, get a therapist, because it's not the HIV issue (which you do not have PERIOD) It's about you not being able to allow this to go and move on with your life. Sorry but all the answers are already posted on HIV foru.

p.s. usually I would say, you would win the lottery 10 x's str8 before having HIV, but in your case, you just DO NOT HAVE HIV. PERIOD.

When I was in high school I went through the same thing.  I would read about symptoms all of the time and freak out.  The easiest thing to do is buy one of those at homes kits and test yourself.  Once I found out I didn't have it the fear went away.

James,

How are you now?
I read the link. I don't find it difficult to understand your concern at all, though it seems like it must have been a very sick person that called you. It must have been a shock to you. At least I know I would've been shocked if I suddenly got a phone call like that.

Silverberg:
Principally I don't think at all you can just say to people that" you don't have this or that.PERIOD" without actually being a doctor yourself examining the person or a qualified health practioner doing the ACTUAL bloodwork on this person. And then you get insulted because that person questions your highly subjective and superficial reply??? beats me...

How am I?

Nervous, Going to the doctor.  I called this hospital - and they don't have a medical record on me.  Which works in my favor and makes it more likely that it was a sick prank.  Alot going through my head.  i posted the question to a doc, and he said "extremely low risk" or "very very low" risk.  Rather heard no risk.  I know that if I would have only spoken of the things I did (that is risk factors) he would have said no one in the world caught hiv this way.

Just pissed off and nervous.  God bless all those who have supported me.

Thanks, Nora - your kind words are much appreciated.  I think that is what people look for when they are in a crisis, not ********, but human kindness and you seem to have a lot of that.

This gives me more reassurance

Thanks you for the question to the ASCLS Consumer Information
site, we are happy to be of service. I do not believe you are
"paranoid" in any way, but rather the victim of a hoax. Someone you
know or just a random person probably was the source of the
"hospital" call. What they said to you and how they did it does not
seem like a common hospital practice. The hospital then not having
any record of such an employee is confirmation of this scenario. I am
not saying that this is what happened, but it is the most probable
explanation. On the off chance that "specimens were mixed up with
names", the tests that were suggested by the phone call likely could
not have been performed on your specimen. The fact that the real lab
report came back with the result of the intended test is a pretty
good sign that the right test was done on your specimen. The 3.5
month gap is another problem in the validity of any such claim from
the phone call. To tell you the truth, I think I just wouldn't worry
about this.
Let me know if anything further develops or if you just have
further questions.
