Is anyone experiencing these vision issues from anxiety?

by MOTAH, May 28, 2007 12:00AM
These symptoms are constant for me, I've seen 2 opthol. (eye specialists) & both think that my eye is perfect with no issues at all.

- rays or shadow of light coming out of bright light at night only.(direction of light/shadow to the left from left eye & to the right from right eye :) )
- flashes of lights to the side of vision or from flaurescent lights, ONLY if they're on the side of my vision, not when they're on the centre of my vision.
- blurry vision when first open my eyes in morning.
- a ring or halo around lights at night espeically bright street lights.

Although all those came to me around 4 months ago gradually, when I did my eye exams at the 2 opthol., I ended up having perfect vision.

My Dr still thinks its anxiety related & it should go away.

Does/did anyone experience any of those symptoms? These are not only there whenever I have an anxiety attack but constantly there AT NIGHT!! I have to admit that they're higher on high stress nights & when I my anxiety is higher than usual.

I know its crazy for me to question my dr again & let him refer me to a THIRD opthol. so I thought I see if anyone else is or was experiencing these symptoms.

cheers,

Another possibility would be ocular migraines.  Not all migraines hurt, although I'm told if you have ocular migraines you're likely to be hurting in the future.  I've had something similar to what you're going through for at least ten years, though.

I too have the flashes of light in the edges of my vision, like tiny explosions of light, and the halos, and "starburst effect", as I call it, at night as well.  I thought I had poor vision too.  Probably is anxiety related.  I had anxiety for 7 years and now that I think about it, the visual disturbances started around that time too.  Hope this helps.

I have migraines with those types of issues, but I also have different issues with my vision all the time - and I'm sure it's anxiety.  I am hyper aware of my body, so that's what I think I notice is just about everything my body does!  I just had laser surgery to correct my mild near-sightedness and I went through an extensive battery of tests.  My eyes are healthy too.

Are you on any medications? Some can affect your vision in this way.

I thought I had blurry vision on waking, well darker vision on waking, until I realised we had changed our bulbs to eco-friendly ones and they take a minute or two to get to full brightness.  A heap of worry for no reason.... again.
Idiot eh.
