Just joined, looking for help

Just stumbled across this website through searches from desparation really.  Not sure if this is the right place to put a message or request on but......  Anxiety really at the point where it's getting on top of me - especially at work and is leading to what I can only describe as panic attacks.  Got to the point where even somone approaching me (used to be prone to senior management etc but now it can be anyone!) will result in my heart racing, mind wondering what's going on and the worst bit - breaking out in a sweat just becuase I'm having a conversation.  Feels like I'm looking for an escape, especially at meetings.  Getting to the point where I'm concerned it's effecting my work even career!  Is this the right place for me?  Have tried Hypno therapy but no use.  Reluctant to go back due to the ongoing cost.  Any help appreciated.

Try some kind of therapy.  What else can you do?

Hi!
I think you've come to the right place from the sounds of your description. Symptoms of anxiety and panicky feelings are very disturbing, and unfortunately anxiety is prone to worsen/become more ingrained with time if not treated/sorted out.
Hypno Therapy can be helpful to some people, as well as NLP(Neuro Linguistic Programming),but not to all. CBT(Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) can be very effective, and there are therapists(psychologists or psychiatrists) whom are trained in this particular method/branch of psychological approaches. Medication in combination with CBT is also an option. There are of course several other approaches, some of which stress the dynamic workings of the psyche and the underlying(sometimes related to childhood experiences) emotional causes of the symptoms. It depends on what you yourself feel is right for you to try.
Hope this was of some help to you.

If you do seek professional help, do not take the drug Effexor.  Although it does help, the withdrawls are about as bad as a heroin detox.  The half life is only about 5 hours, which mean you experience withdrawls within a day of not taking it.  There are other mild anti-anxiety drugs that help tremendously and if you'd like to discontinue you won't have to to go on a "detox plan" with your physician.  Yoga helps, breathing exercises are great too.
