Klonapins/Lorazepam

by melann27, Jun 18, 2008 08:46AM
I am currently taking 1/2 of .5MG of Klonapin.  I have not been feeling well at all,  I feel drowsy all day.  My doctor thought that switching me to the same dosage of Lorazepam might be better.  He said that it is a little milder and does not last as long.  Could anyone give me any insight into this?

Thanks.

I believe that Lorazepam has a shorter half life and works quicker and the body can build tolerance to it faster.  It is also usually only prescribed for short term use (i.e. 3-4 months) while Klonopin actually takes some time to build up in your system and is generally used more long term.  Both are good at what they do in my opinion, however, if it is not combined with talking with a therapist about anxiety then all it does is cover up these symptoms.  I am a big proponent of medication as long as it is combined with talk therapy...keep us posted.
