Klonopin

I have just started Klonopin for lack of sleep!  not depression or anxiety...  however, now after a week I am finding that I am emotional, tearing up a lot........

Lack of sleep is the pain from arthritis in my neck, spine, ankle. Also SLE which often gives us lack of sleep. I also have heart problems, and diabetic.  However, I have a very good outlook on life, meditate often, and have photography (hobby) as a very good release of stress.  I DO not let my health hold me back like one would think right off. My doctor often remarks how well I am handling life.  SO,

does Klonopin cause emotional changes?

Thank you so much for your feedback.  I am finding that my stress seems less important while taking this Klonopin - but I certainly am having tears -   I see my dr in another week or so, and will discuss it with him then.  I find if I don't take the prescription at night - and skip it - I don't sleep.  If I forget to take it, I can fall asleep - but only for an hr or two, then, I am up... and it is usually too late (early am) to take it.  Thanks again everyone.

Yes, I have tried ambien, and ambien CR, and had to discontinue/stop it due to having long laps of forgetfulness.  Not good!  I tried Lunesta, and it is ok, however, my insurance won't pay for it, and I can't afford it. SO the doc thought this Klonopin would do the trick, but I didn't expect tears.  Maybe it is relaxing me enough to release tears for all the high stress I am going thru!!!  didn't think of that until reading all of the above.  Thank you everyone for your assistance.  I will be calling my doctor next week.  8o)

Klonopin is a benzo and should have a sort of 'sedative' effect on you...it usually will calm you down and is actually a longer acting than others in the same class like Ativan or Xanax.  However, medications affect people in different ways.  If you are having problems with this go back and talk to your doctor about it.  Just don't stop taking it or adjust dosage on your own.  Keep us posted!

I take Klonopin occasionally but it is for my anxiety difficulties.  I have never heard of taking it just for sleeping.  If you feel that it is effecting you in a negative way, then tell your doctor to switch your meds.  Have you tried sleep aids like ambien or lunesta?  Or have you tried something like Tylenol PM?

I wish you a good night sleep!

My son was on K for only a few weeks for his anxiety. He told me his depression was more severe so his pdoc took him off. I must say he looked very down in the evening after his pm dose but seemed calmer and less anxious in the earlier part of the day. I dont know if this helps but i thought Id offer what I have seen with my boy. (16 yrs old). Good luck.
