WOW! This happened to me last week! I just started taking Lexapro 10mg, I'm on day 8 or 9 now, and I'm LOVING IT!
But the first 2 or 3 days or so, after I would take one about 20-30 min later I would go into FULL ANXIETY... I couldnt sit still at work, I would pace, and my palms would sweat... I was having BAD anxiety. I also had ativan on me, .5mg and took 2 of them. They helped some but I've been taking them on and off for 2 years or so... only when needed, and I will tell you that is such a small dose, I've never had a problem quiting ativan. I'm not a Dr. though and not saying you should just stop taking them cold turkey or anything, but don't be afraid of being physically addicted to them. I was afraid, but now they dont even work for me.
So my therapist put me on Klonopin 1mg to take when needed. This helped me SOOOO much getting through those first few days of bad lexapro side effects. But now I havnt had to take a klonopin for a few days and I'm LOVING LIFE all over again. My head is clear and just feel so motivated! =)
Give it time, I'm only on day 8 or 9, and this stuff really kicks in about day 14 or so. So hang in there and talk to your Dr. about maybe getting a little klonopin to help as a tool? Again I'm not giving medical advice b/c I'm not a Dr. but just suggesting asking your Dr. about Klonopin 1mg. My therapist told me ativan and klonopins are not as addictive like xanax and stuff. You REALLY have to wean off xanax and stuff. But to be safe I always kinda wean myself off anything really. =)
Take care, and keep us posted on your day by day improvements. You'll be feeling good soon I'm sure! If not, then tell your Dr. and try something else. It's all trial and error. But Lexapro is one of the best out there in my opinion. It's not too potent.
Wow.I didn't know that and it's kind of scarey to have to wait and see what will happen.I will try to stick it out if not i'm getting off of it.So i guess i'm going to continue to take the adavan.Thank u for the advice.
First, it takes four to six weeks usually for an anti-depressant like Lexapro to start working, unlike ativan, which works quickly. But the side effects start right away, and often an anti-depressant can be stimulating and increase anxiety. Sometimes it goes away, sometimes, if the med isn't for you, it doesn't. Only time will tell that.
