Left feeling terrified after an episode :( i dont know what to think!....

Hey guys

Todays been a right stinker of a Saturday....

I've not long woken up (about 5:30pm my time, I'm GMT 0) from sleeping from a panic episode, or at least i hope thats what it was.

I was up all Friday night again, I've had 3 nights  being awake until early in the morning, and this one honestly scared the living Sh*t out of me.

I was in bed on my laptop, when it happened out of the blue about 7am, first it was like a flush of dizziness...strong dizziness, as if i was about to pass out, it went from my head and all down my body, then the cold feeling sunk in, i felt chilled right through my skin, my jaw tightened up and felt stiff, i couldn't breath properly, my chest tightened and the dizziness began. i went into a state of panic....i was burbling i was going to die to my partner who'd woken up to me lie this, i couldn't feel my pulse in my chest, i was cold sweating and clammy across my hands and feet and breathing so erratically.....shook me up so much, my neck hurts, all over feels like I've run a marathon, i must've had so much adrenaline in me.

I did begin to calm down slowly...i tried laying down, and my chest started this.....swirling cold feeling, i honest to god thought i was having a heart attack..but it was strange, my heart wasn't thumping like a drum, and my pulse was...calm.

I managed to sleep through up until now, and i'm honestly feeling so wrecked...i dont know whether to go running upto ER or the hospital or just sit it through and hope i feel better. Every possible thought is going through my head..my muscles hurt,i feel cold..was that a sign of a future heart attack?, or was it just genuinly a bad panic attack....i dont know!!

I'm on 20mg Citalopram and have been on that medicine almost a year, there's been some stress, i've had disturbing dreams every time i fall asleep.

what do i do?....this just came out of the blue!

Sounds to me like it was genuinly a severe panic attack. I'm sure going without sleep for so long didn't help you much. If you are extremely concerned about your health you can go see a doctor but it's likely they will tell you that it was a panic attack and anxiety. Are you seeing a therapist at the moment? If not I would suggest that you do and look into Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help you deal with panic attacks when they arrive. You may be prescribed benzos as well(such as xanex or klonopin) but be careful if you are these can be addictive and be terrible to come off of. Good luck to you and you will be OK just try to be as calm and relaxed as possible, I know that's hard but try. Take care.

Thank you for the quick response.

I think in this case it was a severe panic attack, i havn't had any for a long time and it could have just been building up!, i may or may not go to my doctors but CBT I've actually had before, it was only a short course though, so i might re-book and see if i can actually get a one to one and be thoroughly assessed.

I think a good calm down and an early night should work wonders, here's hoping!

thanks again for commenting!
