Lexapro and isomnia

I just recently started taking lexapro 10mg for my anxiety attacks, For some reason i cannot sleep at all! I go to bed early because i am so tired and toss and turn all night until 7 8 in the morning. Any one else have the same problems? I even tried taking xanax once and it did nothing.

thank you very much for your response both of you, but i decided medication is just not for me i am going to be taking natural herbal pills instead and go for therapy. I just never liked medications, and the last thing i need is for my body to get addicted to these pills, i used to be on propranolol 20mg for my heart beat and my doctor made me lay off of it and ever since then my heart has been going nuts because its so used to it and its causing me alot of anxiety. Pills are just a no no. because once your bodys addicted its so hard to go on without it. ive learned that.

You can try waiting to go to bed a little later, and then occupy your mind while you fall asleep.  Like reading, watching TV, low key music, etc.  With anxiety and depression, when we just lie in bed awake all we do is think and as you know this just ramps up our anxiety.  I fall asleep with the TV on which keeps me from thinking too much, but reading may be even better.  It would also be a good idea to let your doctor know about this and get his advice.  Sleep can be a fleeting thing for us but there are ways to do it.  I hope this helps and take care.

How long have you been taking meds? Sometimes they can take weeks before you feel the benefits. Insomnia's a great friend of anxiety/depression, it seems to always come with them. The fear of insomnia is the main cause of it I believe. If you try to forget about sleep it will be very hard at first, but in time, you probably will accept that nothing much wrong is happening to you. Of course you'll feel tired ~ but it won't kill you or send you nuts!  If you can get a Doc to get you one of the 'talking therapies' it may help with your anxiety as well as the insomnia. All on here will confirm that anxiety/depression can feel like you'll never smile again, but you will for sure.
Controlled breathing ie long slow, deep breath in & a longer slow breath out may help, it did for me. Exercise, listening to music you like etc may bring you some peace of mind. If you feel that you need help, don't hesitate to ask for it. Best wishes. George
