Looking for Parnate users.

I've just finished my 10th day of taking parnate and so far no luck. But,  this is to be expectected.   I start my first dose of 30mgs per day tomorrow and my pdoc doesn't expect any help to start kicking in until I I hit 40mgs.   Bottom line is I'm looking for any past or current parnate users and hearing about there experiences.  I'm currently on 6 mgs of Xanax Xr (3mgs) taken daily as well.  For now I'm extremely restless.  This is listed as a side effect of parnate,  but it is hard to tell if this is an initial body adjustment of the parnate.  My pdoc says it's my anxiety.  What is also common is waking up from long naps and feeling restless.   In the morning I just feel week and nauseated with little anxiety and greater depression.  In the evening and nights I have crazy restlessness and less depression.  I know I need to get of the Xanax Xr. but that will come slow.   I was previously on 40mgs of Paxil for a short time.  It was doing nothing for my anxiety.  I did a short ween, (7 DAYS).  My pdoc wanted to get me off sooner due to work retraints.  After 21 days off Paxil I believe my brain is still adjusting and this may be part of the restlessness.

Thanks,

Audre.

Based on the prescribing info I've seen, this is a pretty specialized med about which I know less than nothing, so I do hope you drum up some others who are taking it. From what I understand, it sort of makes some of the neuro transmitters "puddle up" in various places in your body -the impact of which is I don't know what. It would make sense to me that levels would need to reach some critical point, though, before anything started to happen.

There is a forum member whose name is Ryan and whose forum handle is RCA7591. He's a pretty busy guy, ducking in and out, so see if you can catch him when he's active on the forum. He's a walking encyclopedia when it comes to meds, so give 'im a shout when you see he's made a post recently.

I sure hope you will.keep us all up to date on your progress.

Thanks for your reply.  I've done a lot of reading on the drug and have a good basic understanding of what it does.   There are diet restrictions that I'm getting used to and I monitor my blood pressure regularly.   Today was my first dose at 30mgs.  "Usually" , after 30mgs has been in the system for 10 days or more a person people start to respond.
I'm praying I'm one of these people.   I had a session with my CBT yesterday and based on my history he and I both agree that I have a benzo problem.   Benzo's work initially for me than I start withdrawal and have to increase the level.   This only makes me sicker and gives me rebound anxiety.   Like I said before,  I'm on Xanax Xr and it's designed to stay in your system gradually releasing xanax over a 6 to 12 hour basis.   I will be off of the benzo's eventually.  I am familiar with Dr. Ashton's Valium replacement theory in aiding at minimizing the w/d symptoms.  My current pdoc just doesn't agree.  With me benzo w/d involves horrible leg weakness and an uncomfortable tightness around my mid section.  GOOD NEWS:  I awake every morning feeling like boot leather.  My anxiety symptoms are the worst in the morning when I first wake up.   Earlier this month as I was going through paxil withdrawal I was walking 1 hour in the morning and 1 in the evening.   This got me out of the house.   Well,  over the last couple of days I finally got my self to the gym.  Believe me,  because of how sick I feel in the morning this is hard to do.  Anyway,  I get on the treadmill and interval train.  I start of walking at a pace for 2 mins.  then gradually increase until I'm at a jog eventually working my way down to a walk again.   Bottom line is that I did 2 miles in 36 mins.  It's about 90mins later now and I'm so relaxed I want to take a nap and I still haven't taken my first dose of benzos.   Interesting that getting my heart rate up helps with my anxiety but not the walking?  I plan on hitting the treadmill again in the early evening.

Hi...I was just looking on the site for med interactions and caught posts on parnate.  I have been on it for 6-7 years now and it has been part of my saving grace cocktail.  It worked pretty fast but I am also hyper sensitive to many medications.  I tried every possible med for depression and the side effects....well I just could not tolerate them.  I have been even balanced but I have had hypomanic episodes periodically and they don't last but a day or two.  The fact that we all have to go through so much to find a resolution of some sort just adds to the worry, aggrevation, depression and is there anything out there that will help.  Believe me...I too have been through too much and to many doctors and given up on the fact I will ever find my way out of that hole.  I finally realized that I can't let this get me like it did my father who took his life.  For many years after that I honestly thought his way was also going to be the only way for me.  Honestly one day I woke up and vowed that I would do whatever to keep overcoming these obstacles.  I believe someone helped in giving me jolt with my faith instead of my fate.  I know he doesn't want me to cross that line.  Yes......!  I do still think about suicide but that is all because my conscious boldly reminds me of all my family.  I hope anyone with this illness/struggle finds their cocktail so they will no longer have to keep going from one med to the next.
