Low blood pressure low pulse

Okay help. I need to know I am not crazy. So I have been diagnosed with anxiety and where that has gotten me is 60 pounds heavier, mounting medical bills, and a completely disrupted life. My husband has chronic kidney failure so it is difficult for him to wrap his head around a disease that doesn't have tangable symptoms. I want to love life and I can't. I just watch it go by. I am our sole provider and I just blew my nursing boards because I couldn't even bring myself to study. I don't have typical anxiety symptoms. I rarely even have a racing heart beat, in fact in is usually in the 60's to 50's which freaks me out. I have very low blood pressure usually 90/50 and I feel like I am just going to fade away. I can concentrate, and I get words scrambled, I constanly worry about my heart, and lungs and stomach, right now I going to my doctor because I think I have an abdominal aortic anyrism. Gosh when I type this out I sound even crazier than I already feel. I am losing my life. I don't ever want to have kids because I freak out at the thought of what would happen to my heart will I am pregnant. I just want to scream. Plus I am a nurse so I read into every little symptom I have. Does anyone have the low pulse low blood pressure going on? I have mood swings and I have gotten so fat. I excersize and I don't even eat that much. I used to be beautiful now I hate myself . I really try to just give it to God and not worry but I can't. Any thoughts

I posted on your other post that it sounds like a lot of depression to me.  Also, is it possible for it to be hypothyroidism?  I know that that also can effect your moods....Start with a complete physical and take it from there....you CAN get better and you WILL....don't worry about the future and children etc....one day at a time right now until you straighten yourself out.  you will have plenty of time to discuss children and other happy things later!

whenever i get anxious.. or freaked out.. my blood pressure..and my pulse get alot slower.. my heart rate at times is very slow.. and.. blood pressure about 95/50.. sometimes even lower..

i attribute it to my body simply being accustomed to panic and anxiety.. i have had every test.. i am fine.

i do have hypothyroidism though.. it CAN.. AND DOES make your heart rate slower.. maybe you should have that checked out.. uintil they found out mine. i had gained quite a bit of weight..

i hope t hat you find out whats going on..

I no longer have anxiety, or low blood pressure or low pulse.  I did have all of them before.  It started when my husband cheated on me, I really believed that if anyone ever cheated that they should be out the door.  But I loved him and wanted to give it another try.  I lost my identity, that may sound a little wild but it was so true, I felt like I was not able to comment on anything.  Such as friends relationships, kids problems  on and on just felt my thought were not important now that I had allowed this.  I could laugh now about the way I let this get out of hand but hey if only, what ifs.  Anyway i sorted this out 2 years with treatment for anxiety, did not work so I left him.  Then after another year with no treatment it was gone. I dont remember it going it just went slowly like it came.  I have thought and thought how did I a strong person allow this, well my answer to my self is I am a very strong person and when he cheated I lost control.  I have only answered because with your husband being ill and you cant control this part of your live etc etc get the picture hope this help.

I am unable to sleep latley because every time I dose off, my arm or my leg jerks and I wake up!  Does anyone else have this problem?  I am on Adivan, but I don't want to take it on a regular basis-only as needed.  I also notice that I'm getting weird sharp shooting pains in my head everyday.

hi....I suffer from ocd and anxiety disorder. Recently I began to have palpitations again, this time accompanied with low blood pressure and a low pulse rate. I am terrified and keep dwelling on the fact that I think I have heart disease or something. I can not even think straight. I have been having weird symptoms like skin flushing and weight loss(10 pounds in 2 weeks without even trying), Just today I went to the emergancy room again and they sent me on my way, saying they think it might be tachy-brady, but I also have a fmily history of thyroid problems, my mom had hers removed at my age. They did a basic panel and it came back negative, I asked for the t3 and t4 but they decline, saying its only anxiety...I need someone to help me, I am a emotional wreck and terrified, I have 2 kids ages 4 and 1 1/2 and its hard to be there for them like I should be with all this misery....sigh* thank you

I am going through the same exact thing right now!  I developed anxiety over seven years ago, and in the beginning I had all the typical symptoms...Pounding rapid heart beat, palpitaitons, sweats, cold hands/feet, tingling, dizziness, tightness in my chest, and would finally peak in a full blown panic attack.  Over the years I began to deal with these daily "symptoms", always fearing in the back of my mind that I was dying from this or that disease.  I started out at 216 lbs (female, 5' 7"), dropped 60 lbs in 8 months, and recently my weight has dropped to 117 lbs, and I lead a VERY seduntary life.  I have had low blood pressure all along (averages about 90/60) but I had my 2nd child 3 months ago and I have developed the slow heart rate thing.  When I panic now my heart rate DROPS instead of increase, to like 60 BPM when standing, and I woke up one morning with a heart rate of 44 BPM.  I don't have insurance so I am having to go to the local free clinic, and it's been a SLOW process.  I am getting the results of some blood work back July 17th, and I will keep you guys posted.  I hope you all felt well today.

Wow!  Everything here is the same thing I have been living with!  I have had anxiety all my life, but when my marriage was in trouble, and having young children, I would have accute anxiety attacks.  In accute, I mean, shaking hands, headaches, unable to self-calm after being startled or getting angry.  The Dr. put me on valume, to use only as needed, it did help.  But my anxiety became constant so I was put on Lexapro, that caused me to gain enormous amounts of weight! YUK!  When I complained of the weight, they put me on Effixor, but I sweat constantly!  Hated it!  So I went back to Lexapro.  All during this time, my energy level continued to decline, spending hours a day in bed, exhausted, sometimes, my husband would have to put me to bed.

I had a stroke from a Patent Forem Ovale in my heart, a birth defect, got that fixed, and suddenly I was supposed to be fine again. WRONG!  Finally they discoverd thyroiditis (hypothyroidism) - but only because I kept complaining of "episodes" when I got upset or startled.  My blood pressure would drop, I would loose all strength, I would get confused and scramble words if I could speak much at all, I would not be able to drive or even walk!  Once I completely collapsed and required an ambulance, but once I was on oxygen, felt soo much better!

We finally found some connections, low blood sugar, hypothyroidism, hormone imbalance(slight!) but it was enough to effect me - everyone is different, and something to trigger it like - getting no sleep (common with anxiety) and worrying about something, being stressed, etc... Finally we - my husband and I are putting the puzzle together, that the beginning of the problem was ANXIETY - as time progressed, my body began to respond differently to it, in the beginning it was the shaking and rapid heart - when I got off Lexapro because the fatigue was worsening. I didn't realize it was depression - so now I am going to see a psychiatrist to see if he can help me with both - the Anxiety and Depression.  The prozac helps the depression some but I think getting my anxiety under control will help me sleep and help the fatigue, also hopefully a good anxiety med will stop the "episodes" of sudden blood pressure loss and collapse.

I totally understand what you guys are dealing with - try getting on thryroid meds, check your hormones, and consider medicating both depression and axiety seperately.  Prozac is not enough for me.

God Bless us all!  We want our lives back!

I think things going on with your heart and blood pressure can cause anxiety, and anxiety can exaccerbate those problems. I suffered with very high blood pressure and constant tachycardia for a few months, and I was basically stuck in bed. Blood pressure is better now (not ideal according to my dr), but when I am anxious, it sure doesn't help. I have exercise induced tachycardia that is occasionally followed by bradycardia. The first time I noticed bradycardia, it scared the hell out of me,  and I had a pretty severe panic attack, and then of course went into tachycardia. Bradycardia has never observed by my doctors, because by the time I feel like I need help, it's when I get scared, and that causes a huge adrenaline surge. There is nothing structually wrong with my heart, and my sinus rhythm is normal. They tell me I need to stop worrying, but I know how hard it can be not to worry.

Now when my anxiety is under control, I have noticed that my heart symptoms feel much less severe. Sometimes they completely go away for a while. Even with all the anxiety, I feel very mentally stable, and I don't suffer from depression. I don't ever break down mentally, and for these reasons it took me a while to realize I really do have anxiety. My anxiety symptoms are primarily physical, and that was what was confusing to me for such a long time.

Hi, to all of you suffering with this anxiety issue! I have much of the same symptoms you all spoke of and have learned that the low blood pressure and low pulse rate are part of the vasovagal response. We all have that response naturally in our bodies from the vagus nerve, however, some of us, who suffer from anxiety, cause that response to go off prematurely. The symptoms are low BP, low pulse rate, feeling like you are going to faint, extremely lethargic, I even got to the point that I couldn't stand and walk. It is all related. So the good news is that we are not going to die, at least not from this, and all the other horrible thoughts that go through our heads that something really bad must be wrong with me really aren't reality. I was convinced I had a brain tumor!! So I hope this helps some of you, I am on lexapro and that has stopped the vasovagal thing but I too have gained weight and had other side effects I don't really like. However, they are better then feeling like I'm going to pass out all the time. Hope this helps!

I have all the same issues. I've had low blood pressure my whole life. It ranges from 120/75 to as low as 90/60. My pulse has gotten as low as 54 bpm.  I have had 7 EKG's done and there is no odd rythum or weird beats. I wore a 24 hour heart monitor and was told I had one episode of fast heart beat and one episode of slower than normal heart beat, but that this was all normal.  I was also hooked up to a huge cardiac monitor at the hospital where they checked my oxygen saturation...which was between 99 and 100. It checked my blood pressure which ranged from 100/67 to 90/60 and they watched my heart rythum for 2 hours and it beat normal.  But even with all this, I kept telling the doc it feels like my rib cage is caved in and hard to breath.  So he did xrays of the heart and lungs. All were normal.  I do go to the gym about 10 to 15 times a month but I am very active.  I weigh about 112 and am 5' 4".  The doc said because I am small and active the blood pressure and pulse are normal for me.  He said the crushed feeling in the chest and can't breath is anxiety and stress.   He said when the body stresses you are more likely to notice heart palipatations...but not to worry because everyone has them everyday...its just that stressed people are so focused on something wrong with their body that they tend to feel them.    I have noticed the confusion and light headedness you all have mentioned and told this to my doc. He says it is from anxiety and clenching the chest wall so tight that it will keep some of the oxygen from getting throughout the body.

And even after all these tests being run and being told by 3 docs that I am 100% healthy...no thyroid issues, no infections, to heart issues, no lung issues...I still think sometimes there is something really wrong with my heart or lungs.  I feel my pulse slow down and i think its just going to stop beating and i'm going to die.  But i only notice these syptoms (symptoms) if i am alone and thinking or see a commercial on tv about heart or lung issues or something like that.  If i am at the gym, or work, or out with friends I have no problems and notice nothing at all. My doc said this is how he knows for a fact it is anxiety.  If you feel bad all the time then there is a problem, but being active with a buddy is not the cure for heart or lung issues.

If you have had all the tests run and everything is coming back normal then it is good old fashioned anxiety and stress.  And to tell the truth, I think I would rather deal with the racing heart than the 60 bpm any day.  But our hearts are not going to just stop.  It just slows quickly and scares the crap out of us.  I think it is our bodys way of repairing itself and keeping us healthy.

Just wanted to reassure people that a bp of 90/60 is within normal range, and is not low blood pressure.

Low diastolic pressure (first or highest number in a bp reading) is anything 89 or under, and low systolic pressure (second or lowest number in a bp reading) is 59 or under.

89/59 would be just crossing over into low bp, and something that is only just low would not be considered 'very low'.

Another thing to bear in mind is that low BP is not necessarily a cause for concern.  It is often seen as advantageous, and can even indicate a longer life (unless there are other issues causing the low BP).

My GP explained this to me, and I felt a lot better about my BP.

I have had anxiety for a while now, and I too have these same symptoms. I am very active cyclist with too much time on his hands. I've been in and out of the hospital for checks on my brain, lungs, thyroid and heart and everything seems to be functioning normal, yet I have constant fear that my heart is going to stop beating. I will have a strange feeling in my chest in public (something like indigestion) and immediately freeze up and not know what to do. My body feels almost paralyzed. Sometimes, I will start to shiver or even shake a little, teeth chattering and all. It seems like nothing can bring me out of my head. I am very concerned, or was until reading this, as my symptoms seemed to be a-typical for anxiety, due to the fact that my heart rate is generally in the 50s and my bp is almost always under 108. I was certain this was a sign that there was perhaps a bigger issue, but with all the testing, I don't see how this could be. Sometimes I will get a pressure behind my face in the skin or tingling in the feet, I am guessing this is associated with low blood pressure. I really freaked out when I had a bad situation happen and I noticed my heart drop in beats and even skip a few. I am going in to talk to my doctor tomorrow about medication and maybe some new checks, seeing as I got sober about 4 months ago (alcoholism) and am undergoing a tremendous amount of stress, whilst trying to get my life back together and I would like to have some reassurance that things will be okay. If I don't follow up, assume that we are all stuck in our heads, worrying about things that aren't really happening! I feel for you all. Wish you the best!

hi! i am a 25 yr-old female and recently went to the dr. because i thought i was diabetic or anemic, because i'm always dizzy and tired.  it is so extreme that after i work a full day i just sit on the couch all night and i never want to do anything on weekends.  the dr. said my heart sounded abnormal so he ran an EKG and i had a chest x-ray done.  he then referred me to the cardiologist and i had an echocardiogram done.  the echo showed extra beats so i wore a holter monitor for 24 hours. results: my heart had over a thousand EXTRA beats in one day, and my pulse would go from 60, to 160, in one second without any physical activity.  he put me on atenalol (a beta blocker) to hopefully "fix" the abnormal heartbeat.  my blood pressure has been running 90/60 on average and i have been on atenalol for 4 days.  i still don't feel right though.  if this medication does not work he said i will need some operation to have some of the electrical pathways in my heart "burned."  i guess i was born with too many of them...anyway, if any of you are experiencing any symptoms like i was/am, go in and see your doctor; the last thing i had ever imagined was that i would have any heart problems, especially since i am a healthy, thin, 25-yr old!  oh, and all of my bloodwork was completely normal (at first they thought it might just be my thyroid or something).

I have the same fears as you really. I'm constantly worried about my heart. Always checking my pulse, always trying to look out for a heart beat. I just feel like its going to stop. And I too feel like im just gonna fade away. I loose concentration on everything. And its becoming really annoying. I get angry and frustrated about it, and tell myself its just Anxiety. Because well, I feel anxious all the time, especially when it comes to checking my heart. I  tell my self "you had a panic attack, its just anxiety, just shut up." But because of the chemical imbalance, my brain just wont shut up, so I just feel anxious again!
I Think i create symptoms for myself. I convinced myself I had Heart failure, because I thought I had shortness of breath. But my breathing is fine. The only thing I do is take a deep breath, or yawn all the time! But its just me. Its all in the mind!

I too have been dx w/ anxiety. Tonight, I broke out into a cold/hot sweat. I became very agitated. I felt as if I was going to faint. I took my bp and it was 86/48...YIKES. I did not know that low bp goes along with anxiety until reading the above comments. My Dr. recommeds that when my bp drops that I should drink a sports drink. That is exactly what I did and then layed down for an hour. It is all better now. That has to be one of the worst attacks I have ever had. Scary!

I too have suffered from anxiety for years - for almost 20 years was on/off imipramine (25mg/day) and heartrate was always in high 80's to low 90's, no other side effects and it was working, but after time blood pressure started to go up.  Dr. changed me to lexapro (gained a little weight), blood pressure went back to normal - usually runs around 102/68, but my heartrate has now dropped to the 50-60's which is freaking me out more.  Going back to the doctor next week - after 6 months on lexapro am ready to just go without and deal with the anxiety. They have checked thyroid and hormone level (which shows I am post menopausal) and says that is all normal.  Can't stop focusing on low heart rate though as it is making me that much more anxiousl
