Lucinda Bassett's "Good Days"

Lucinda Bassett's "Good Days"

I have been using 20 mgs of Celexa for awhile, which I have noticed isn't working anymore...instead of filing the prescription, I was thinking of trying this "Good Days" supplement...

What do you think....a little background on me...I am a 51 year old woman, I am a "type A" sales woman, I weigh about 200 lbs (not happy about) and I have a 20 yr old son who suffers from Generalized Anxiety Disorder...so I am dealing with that too.

Any advice on trying Good Days?

Thanks,
Becky

What I think is that no matter what you try, you first must taper slowly off the Celexa, not quit abruptly.  This should be done with a psychiatrist who understands how to go off these meds properly.  As to that particular formula, if you're an anxiety sufferer it's one I would be careful with.  It contains panax ginseng and rhodiola, two adaptogens that can be very energizing and therefore increase anxiety.  This doesn't mean they will, it means they might.  She would have been better putting eleuthero and ashwagandha in it, which are adaptogens that aren't energizing.  Panax ginseng is also not considered suitable for women, according to Chinese medicine, and it's a Chinese herb.  Now, they could help, because you might be what's called overly "yin" and this would make you more "yang" but you have to consider the energizing part.  Another problem with it is it contains two amino acids, 5-HTP and Theanine, which are usually best taken apart from food, and the herbs, which are usually recommended to be taken with food, although this isn't as important as sometimes thought.  But this is a common problem with formulas devised by people like Lucinda Basset's team of marketers who don't really understand natural remedies and just put something together based on what they're read.  If you do try it, however, it's easy to stop if it doesn't work for you, unlike Celexa, which must be stopped carefully.  If it doesn't work, don't take that to mean nothing natural will work, just as you shouldn't take Celexa not working to mean nothing medication will work for you.  It's very trial and error both ways.  Personally, I'd always buy my natural products from companies that specialize in them and are owned by naturopaths or herbalists, not someone with an on-line psychology business.  One final point -- the 5-HTP in the formula shouldn't be taken while you're on a serotonin-affecting med like Celexa, because it's function in the body is to manufacture serotonin.  You could theoretically get an overdose of serotonin.
